I have never encountered them up in that area of Kansas. I have in the Oklahoma panhandle though so I’d say if you’re farther south closer to Liberal or so watch out. I’d keep pliers in my vest anyway… westks could chime in on that since he lives up that way.
Hunted the Kinsley area for years and years and never ran boots. Occasional sand bur. You must’ve hit a big patch. Used to hunt up into Rush Co a lot too. I don’t think I ever ran boots in Kansas. I’m sure south of kinsley a ways you’re getting into them bad because in Oklahoma I had to...
Kept a stray kitten once. Only cat I've ever had. The bird dogs actually got used to her quick and they got along well. She was okay but wouldn't leave my bluebird houses alone so had to give her to a friend.
I'd think sub 400K would be the norm with the lack of habitat. The landscape doesn't resemble what it did in mid 2000s up there anymore. Pretty barren except for a field here and there and some corners and ditches. Unless that has changed in the last couple of years. Don't think I've hunted...
Stuck a knife in my leg field dressing a deer. Wasn't alone but my daughter was 3 and was the first time I took her with me. Didn't lose a dangerous amount of blood but it was definitely bloody. Ended up in the ER getting stitched up. Used a sweatshirt for a tourniquet. Goose would probably...
I've always been a truck guy but sold my son my Tacoma when he turned 16. I stole the 4Runner from my wife and don't think she's going to get it back. I love it for hunting. I can fit two Ruffland kennels in the back. Can also put a sled in the back with two deer in it when I get that low...
Like I mentioned above. I have the Alpha 100. I don't keep up with all their models as I've had the Alpha a long time. Rut posted about the 550 plus. I just looked at it and it sure looks like it would do everything anyone could want for the most part. I seldom use any functions on the 100...
If I got an hour from the house and realized I forgot the Garmin gear I'd go back and get it. Don't know how I ever hunted without. I know I lost a lot of birds that the dogs had pointed and I never realized it. I have an Alpha 100. Had an Astro before but like the combo with e collar.
The only time I ever hunted around much cactus, I didn't really have a problem with feet. I had more of a problem with spines getting into the front of their legs. There were so many that I gave up pulling them out and the dogs either got them or they worked themselves out on their own.
I tried some homemade inner tube ones last year. Worked fine on sand buds. Not sure how canvas would do on long spines like that. I think the Lewis would repel them. There are videos out there on putting them on correctly.
Mine do well on next level. I’ve fed pro plan and used to feed victor. Using Next Level high energy now. Will up the protein and fat maybe during bird season.
Does it really make sense that they have enough true wild birds to run guys like that over and over all season? That area has never recovered to what it was in the 2000s. Not even close. I'd bet they're released young or something like that to make them more wild. I know someone that hunts...
