    The truth about Prairie Storm

Hi dakotasj, There's a lot of wisdom in your post. I haven't reached novice pheasant hunter status. Experience has earned me title of expert consumer of everything. Marketing is artfully applied social science. Marketers can wax ingenious at separating consumers from their money. Lord knows...

These are the best cold weather gloves I have ever owned. I bought them for snowmobiling Yellowstone. At snowmobile speed in sub-freezing temperatures, my fingers and hands stayed warm. They would work in sub-freezing stand hunting. I would never shoot with them on. I know that I wouldn't be...

My post with the exception of #7 was anecdotal. It was my first prairie pheasant hunt. At best, they were observations, not knowledge with the exception of #7. #7: safe gun handling is a no-brainer. I'd probably have to be institutionalized if I negligently shot another hunter.

    What else do you hunt?

Anything I can eat that challenges my abilities and skills with the exception of coyotes. I've seen more damned coyotes than I can hope to remember. I saw a gorgeous coyote while hunting mule deer in the Rockies. He trotted toward me. I concealed myself behind sage. I had my .270 Win's scope's...

    Kansas Ringneck Hunt

Hi KansasGap, Yes sir, I hunted with a guide. I'll guestimate we saw an average of 10 roosters per day. Keep in mind that we had our limits in about two hours.

    The truth about Prairie Storm

After finishing my first season of Kansas pheasant hunting, based on my experience, ammo isn't as important as getting a muzzle on a flushed bird yesterday.

Hi Wind River, While I appreciate beautiful guns as much as anyone, I buy guys to hunt. I'll buy a 687 III 28 gauge with 26" barrels. If It's not seasoned after its first season, I haven't hunted har enough.

    Boot Cleaner & Leather Conditioner

What do you guys use? I've always gone with generic conditioners after cleaning with warm water without soap. I was recently told that not all leather conditioners are the same.

My biggest mistake was not shouldering my shotgun while wearing a down jacket and a vest before leaving. I've hunted a lot of upland game...in So Cal. During coldest parts of upland seasons, a light jacket was warm enough. Often, I hunted in a t-shirt and blaze orange vest. A 13 1/2 LOP would...

    28ga

The 28 gauge might be the perfect upland gauge. If I buy another upland shotgun, it'll be a Beretta 687 28 gauge 26".

What is the best pair of boots you ever owned for hunting pheasants?

Hi remy3424. Written by an experienced hunter. Time has not altered the bromide: you get what you pay for, and I wasted a lot of $$$ trying to make the less expensive perform like the boots I should have bought at the getgo. BTW, my Kansas pheasant guide was wearing what looked to be heavy...

    Rattlesnake protection- real experience please

I've hunted in Mojave green habitat. I trust nothing, not even solid steel gaiters when hunting in Mojave green country. By a huge margin, they're the most deadly snake in North America. A hunter has an hour, at most, to get to hospital. and that's not assured survival. MG's do not always...

    The truth about Prairie Storm

Here's what I experienced on a three-day Kansas pheasant hunt. Standard high base number 6 works as well as it always has. 5 & 6 shot were the dominant sizes used. They killed equally dead. It doesn't take a magnum shell to kill pheasants. No one used magnum shells. Everyone bagged limits. I...
