    Dog Dies While At Trainer

A few years ago I spent a few hours at this trainers place. First chance to expose my pup to released birds. Got his name on a recommendation. Honestly didn’t have any issues or concerns working with him. Because we were exposing the pup to bird scent for the first time, no e-collar was ever...

BB, I also use the Orvis ones and agree they work well. Even in the grouse woods, these won’t come out accidentally.

    Climate change frustration

Been at it for nearly 50 years. In my opinion, early season conditions have been trending warmer overall. I agree with most commenters these warmer temps (over 70 degrees) are simply not worth the risk to our dogs.

So, how warm do you feel is too warm to safely hunt your dog in cover (grouse woods or crop)?

    Central North Dakota Sharptail Outlook

Just over a month until the sharptail opener! Our group is planning a hunt to the central part of North Dakota. Any locals out there with info on amount of precipitation, how the hatch went, or other general observations? Thanks!

    Prairie grouse trip

Been sharptail hunting in ND for several years. Great way to start the season. Only down side is the likelyhood of heat. Always hard to remember when you flush a covey; one of the birds closest to you is often the last to flush!

    Grouse and Woodcock tips

Woodcock are a far more forgiving bird than a grouse for pointing dogs to learn on. Not a big difference for flushers, though. Right now is prime time for their spring migration north in states like PA, MN and WI.

2-dog kennel to fit in small SUV

Purchased a smaller SUV, with 41” inside width. Have two dogs that both use 30” long (intermediate length) kennel. Anyone know of a 2-dog kennel that would fit in this vehicle width?

    Spring Turkey

Breast them out like you would a pheasant. Soak for a day in a brine mix of kosher salt and water. Then grill with barbecue sauce. Pretty good flavor; but definitely not as tender as domestic birds.
