    Stevens 560 opinions, insights, experiences

Well, after a season of bringing the Stevens on multiple trips and running 24 boxes of shells through it I can tell you this gun is very reliable, easy to use and cycles shells 100% of the time even when dirty. It's a pretty shotgun and light and well balanced. I can break it down easily and I...

    New Strap Vest

I’m really happy with the vest. The zippered ammo design is actually pretty functional. The flap actually has a Velcro attachment on the inside of the pocket, so when you’re traveling I zip the pockets and when I’m hunting they are Velcroed. The material is a real heavy fabric and the game...

    Let's talk cattail strategies

Not hunting cattails, to me would mean no birds!

I’m glad that I brightened your day. Isn’t that what son in laws are for though?

    Let's talk cattail strategies

My strategy on cattails is to hunt with someone young and preferably someone who you don’t like, for me it’s my son in law. I send him in one end and I just keep pace with him along the most likely side for escaping birds. It works every time

Warmest supple gloves for 15 degree weather

I wear uninsulated deer skin gloves, whether it’s 20 below or 80 degrees. As long as I’m moving my hands stay warm in them and I can have enough feeling to grab shells, feed those shells into the gun and not fumble the safety. Most importantly for me is they offer pretty good protection against...

Cactus Spine in a Dogs Paw

I believe my dog has a cactus spine broken off between the pads(webbing). She was limping, so I took a look and pulled out a few spines that were visible. It’s been a couple of days and she is still three legged. I keep soaking it in epsom salts and keep adding antibiotic. It doesn’t look...

A good season, not without its struggles

Bob, you have hit on the two things that make hunting upland so addicting. It's not the birds that you kill, at least not for me. If that is what someone really is after they should just buy a bunch of chickens. As you and others have said, its about watching a puppy develop into a great...

    Get to know me!

Thanks for your service Tyler. If you ever get out west, let's touch base and I'll see if I can't get you into birds.

Heading to Eastern Oregon for an Extremely Wet Hunting Trip

I'm heading out for eastern Oregon this Wednesday. The forecast looks like snow and rain for the entire time,. I don't mind hunting in the snow but damn, 37 degrees, wind and rain pushes me to my limit. I guess the good news is that I won't be working and the only other folks out and about...
