    New 28ga

After my snafu with the Walmart 28ga, I went and got a new SxS to play with. I ended up with the CZ Teal from BPS. It feels great, handles well, and has double triggers! The wood is nothing to write home about, but it looks pretty good. The black chrome metal finish is fairly nice as well. I...

    Recent dog food experience

Some of you in the past have read about my experience with Extreme Dog Fuel. I had read about some folks using Next Level dog food. I had a Chewy coupon so I ordered a bag to try. My boy, Whisky, is a yellow Lab about to turn 5yrs old. He is athletic and not a 100% couch potato. I got about...

    English Setters

I have been presented with an opportunity for a Setter pup. I am a Lab guy and know nothing about them and what to look for. What do I need to look at with them as far as lineage/pedigrees, etc.? These are mainly white with some gray/black spots. The mom is beautiful.

    2.5" Ammo Question

I am an ardent supporter of RST and their ammo, but their shipping is stupid costly and their availability is limited. I love their 1oz load in paper hulls and have shot it for years in both 12b and 16b flavors. I shoot it from my SxS guns for birds only, no target shooting. I have recently run...

    Got out yesterday

I took my step-son out to the local preserve yesterday. Of the eight pheasants planted, Whisky pointed seven with one busting long. I can tell Whisky has really begun to be more methodical in his hunting and using his nose. #pointinglabs

    New Sock Observation

This past weekend allowed me to try out some new socks. I recently got these as a gift and they were the most comfortable socks I have ever worn. I wore them inside my Filson Uplander boots one day and my Crispi boots the other two. The cushioning is remarkable. I got the over-the-calf socks and...

    Good Weekend in SD

Just got back late last night from the annual hunt in SD with my youngest and his work colleagues. Whisky did really well. He didn't care it rained all day Saturday. Here are images of him at the start and end of the day.

    Hatfield SAS Question

For those of you that shoot a Hatfield SAS shotgun, have you ever had issues with the carrier dog plunger and spring attached to the trigger group? What did you do to fix it and stop it from popping off?

    Costs for Shipping

I recently have been looking for shells at Boss and RST. I was SHOCKED at just how much RST charges for shipping vs. Boss. Is it just me or is the difference significant? I looked at case pricing, as well as for a few boxes, etc. and was just stunned. RST needs to take a hard look at their...

    Hatfield SAS 28ga Question

I recently bought a Hatfield SAS 28ga for fun. I know, it's an inexpensive shotgun... I took it out yesterday to pheasant hunt at my local preserve. I figured I'd get Whisky some work and test out the gun. I was shooting Federal Game Load 1oz #6 loads. I went three shots for three birds in the...

    Vet Suggestion

Does anyone have a suggestion/recommendation for a vet in the Gregory/Burke South Dakota area? I am coming up that way the first part of November and want to have a name/number at the ready if needed.

    Gunner Fits

The Gunner intermediate is a perfect fit in the new GMC Sierra. It goes in easier than it did into the 2012 F150 SCREW. Whisky is ready to go!

    Jewell County Birds

Anyone ever hunted pheasant in Jewell County? Good, bad, iffy? I have only hunted in Norton and Decatur counties.

    Extreme Dog Fuel

Alright guys... let's hear your input on this food. I am feeding Victor now, but keep hearing good things on EDF and is peaking my interest in a change. I see there is a difference in their formulas for their 26-18 foods (Elite vs. Professional.) I appreciate the input.

    Specialty gear/equipment

I know this probably belongs under the Gear section, but I imagine it will get a larger audience here. What is one or two pieces of equipment that may not be a real necessity, but you are glad you have with you? It can be for you or your dog. Boots for the dog? RexSpecs? A special knife? That...

    Garmin Pro 550+ mapping

Alright guys… how in the heck do you use the Explorer app to only see how far the dog has gone? Mine is giving mileage for the entire trip and I can’t figure out how to isolate the hunt. I see the map and the track, but I am on the struggle bus with just seeing how far I and the dog have gone...

If anyone in the NW Arkansas area needs wings for training, let me know, I have some to give.

    Stock Pitch

I have a new Browning White Lightening in 16ga and it seems to shoot low. When I mount it, I can’t really see the front bead. I only see a minimal amount of the rib. Is there an ‘easy’ method to help determine the amount of negative pitch necessary to get the point of aim up?

    Cuga vest

I am looking at one for my lab and this upcoming upland season. I had a Scheel’s vest last year, that I thought fit well, but it wore patches in both upper arms. What is your experience with the Cuga?

    Got his first title

Whisky earned his CPR title at the APLA hunt tests at K&L Kennels two weeks ago. It was a fun weekend and got to see lots of great dogs.
