When I hunted, ALWAYS used copper plated 6's. Usually Federal, used them day 1 and last day, and all days in-between. Never, ever did I have any problems.

GWP's, typically are not big running, or fast. While they're not plodders, but are thorough covering ground. They are wonderful dogs! There are other breeds that would suit you better.

Well, here's my .02 cents. It should be on you. When you're hunting an older dog, be observant! Watch for signs that he/she are struggling. You know your dog better then anyone, the signs are there, just look for them. There is not a gamebird in existence that's worth pushing your dog to hard...

Bob, don't know about other studies, but it's a known fact that pheasants will renest if brood is lost. Each succeeding brood will be smaller by a fair percentage, (50-60%).
