I'll give up a season in KS if it's just not practical but I don't think the upland game is over. Nature has a way of taking care of things. A little common sense doesn't hurt either but I'm not nieve enough to think you can take money out of the equation.
It is a " Hail Mary" for sure. Last year we hunted for six days, we did find a few pheasants, literally 3 or 4 every day but as you would expect in January, wild as hell ! Never got within range. Shot 1 quail between the 4 of us !

Absolutely spot on ! You can't enjoy the dogs if your simply lamenting the "poor" opportunity to find birds. Be grateful you have an option to hunt upland, we here in VA. essentially have non. But I'll be there ( KS ) in January!
Thanks for the summer pick me up ! Hear in Va. we get a few pictures of bears , deer and turkey. Interestingly , we got a mountain lion pic a few weeks ago. Never a quail or pheasant obviously.
