    If I can't drop the bird where I have a very good chance to find it, I don't pull the trigger. Yes, that means letting the occasional bird fly away, which is a better choice than wasting game.

    I don't know what your cover is like, hunt heavier cover into the wind and hopefully there is enough wind to cover some of the noise you make. Stealth is your greatest asset. I suspect this is not new to you. Hopefully your dog stays close.
