    Grouse, season start, and snares

He didn't elaborate on his post so I think it is BS. Leghold traps are simple to remove, snares are tougher by far as they have a one way lock on them. If you didn't have cutters I could see that being a bad situation. Most responsible trappers don't set where dogs might be running, but there...

$500 bill for what? You couldn't get the snare removed?

    Missing GSH's near Ulysses

There is no info on what happened, only thing I saw was he had been training them and perhaps being in a new area they took off unexpectedly. Both are pointers so they range quite a bit. If it were me I would have GPS collars on them, not cheap to do though.

    Missing GSH's near Ulysses

A huge post on Facebook right now that a younger hunter lost two German shorthairs near Ulysses yesterday off highway 160. They both have collars with his number and one is dragging an orange check cord. His name is Slayden Ruzicka, phone# 417-597-1722. I am passing this along I don't have any...

    Nobody posts on this thread

Hunting was decent in November but December was awful. I think quite a few birds were taken in November where I hunt as in December there were hardly any around, this is SW Nebraska really dry there as almost zero moisture. Nothing like 20 years ago, too much habitat loss many CRP grounds were...

    Grouse, season start, and snares

Well on public land would be nice if something like a sign indicated traps or snares were present. On private land the owner can do whatever it is his land. Pretty sure Nebraska requires a tag on each trap with an identifier of who owns it.

    Surgery, Again

14 ouch, you patterened any of the loads you shoot? I would be changing something that is too many losses.

    First day in Western Nebraska

I can see them being a problem when it is nesting season but adult birds are pretty smart as you seldom find piles of pheasant feathers in the field where predators have gotten them.

    Disappointed

Back in the day that Cabela's in Sidney had the famous sidewalk sale every summer. After Bass Pro bought them out everything good about Cabela's has gone down the tubes. That particular location is nothing special any more we stopped a few years ago and it barely had much on the shelves.

Blockers, what chokes are you using.

I am unaware of PS Steel, only seen Lead myself. Tried it once and blew apart too many birds at closer ranges for me plus pretty expensive now.

He is shooting Prairie Storm not steel.

    First day in Western Nebraska

I hunted the opener last Saturday in SW Nebraska, spent the afternoon driving around walk in areas. Drove a total of 80 miles and didn't see any birds along the roads or hunters either. I bagged 2 on private land in the morning and that was the only birds I saw all day. Pretty tough going again...

    Non Toxic requirements

This thread has kind of gone off course. I have plenty of Hevi-Shot if I need a Non Toxic option, it patterns great too. Too many people making assumptions here. I plan to use No-Tox where required and none where it is not required and yes I don't plan to pass up WPA's and GPA's.

    Non Toxic requirements

With 7 out of 9 areas above not requiring non toxic, no need to buy steel and be done with it. It may be your choice, but steel is last preference for me.

    Non Toxic requirements

A5 I was looking at Page 28 of the Hunting and Trapping Handbook under Pheasant Hunting. I did not scroll to page 78 where you are listing that. Just seemed odd under the pheasant hunting section under Resident Only hunting, it specifically says "Non-toxic shot is required to hunt small game on...

    Non Toxic requirements

What public lands there require non toxic shot to be used? The regulation book just states "Non-toxic shot is required to hunt small game on most public lands". Wow that is pretty vague, I would guess waterfowl hunting areas? Heading up there in a couple weeks for first time trying to plan on...
