As my GSP's only hunt upland (Pheasant, Quail and some Chukar) I've never felt the need for a GPS. They are never out of sight as they work the birds. Can someone explain why a GPS collar is needed? Hope I'm not hijacking this thread. Not criticizing either, just trying to understand.
Wow...two Michelob's for a Sweet 16. Might be the best deal I've seen on the forum. I'll give you six-pack of Best Maid Pickle Beer and half eaten donut if you decide to sell it. Trust me that Pickle Beer is hard to find. Actually, congrats on the gun. I have a 67 A5 Sweet 16 and a 2004...
Here, Whoa (wō), Heel, Find'em, Hunt'em Up, Dead Bird, Bird in Here, No Bird, Kennel, Load, and of course...you're so cute, good boy, you son-of-a-$!&@#, %*$(#(*&#& dog, what the #^@&, and finally...get the cat!
All the above...but most of all GET A METAL FOOD DISH and then bang it around, drop it, kick it but make it fun for the pup. The loud noise will help train his ears. This will get you miles ahead on shooting over a dog.
I've tried them all, Igloo, Dogloo, Barrels; and, have even built hay bale houses. I have a hound heater but it scares them and they will not go in the dog house with it. On a whim, I purchased a Dog Palace at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago. Took it to the car wash and then sanitized it...
I run Sylmar but Cuga looks interesting. My dogs hang the buckles when getting in and out of the crate and on fences as well. I've sworn by Sylmar but may try the Cuga.

It's all in interpretation...I'm saying 99% of the shots you miss will be because you are usually behind; not that you'll miss 99% of your shots. I don't miss often either but when I do, I'm late. I think a longer and thus heavier barrel creates a smoother swing throughout the shot...
The worst thing that happens when you start messing with 26" or 24" guns is that you get on point so much quicker that you forget to keep swinging with the flight. You'll miss 99% of your shots and quote me on this and as your friends know..."I busted his tail feathers; dammit"!
You can do some of the above suggestions but it's just easier to carry a couple of dog treats in your pockets. When the dog comes back from retrieve, present the treat, give a drop command and after the dog releases the bird for the treat...praise, praise, praise. I've trained a zillion GSP...
2004 Citori Lightning Feather 16. Was my dads gun for about a week. He followed a pheasant flying over his head, pulled up to fire and gun slid off his shoulder, pulled the trigger and bingo, fractured his collar bone. Has been mine ever since. Felt sorry for dad, but turned out good for...
I have three Cynergy's. 1 field 20, 1 field 28 and a Feather 20. The Feather is nice on long days but it let's you know it's light when you pull the trigger. I have a safe full of 20 O/U's and the Cynergy Field is my workhorse.
