I have to push my German wirehair off our front deck to take a wiz because he is typically on point on some sort of bird. Good bird dogs are happy with any type of bird hunting and adapt naturally.

I shed tears the 3 times I've lost mine, especially the 1st. It's like pulling a big piece of bark off of you. I don't waste anytime on getting a pup though, best remedy for the pain.

I gave up on walking straight lines while hunting a long time ago. I just follow my dog as slow as we can go, more relaxing, sometimes when that tail starts throwing a wind I pick it up a bit. I have hunted the same field the same day with same dog and picked up birds. Them squirrly roosters run...

In SE Iowa from running my dog a half dozen times I would say 2 to 3 roosters to 1 hen. Roadside birds are mostly roosters.

We have an Atlas 50 wobbler with 50 ft foot control cord. I can load it with ramps by myself, excellent thrower. Probably more thsn what you are thinking. My boy shoots trap so we use it a lot.

1st hr and last hr if not too hot in afternoon, short hunts and smaller cover. I would rather hunt in negative temps.

I like to take a pup to a small sandy river when it warms up.
