    pre-season work

Just like the pros need pre-season, so do the dogs. I got a late start this morning and the dogs got hot fast. I only ran them for 30-40 minutes. Nittany had a point on a quail in a field and the bird ended up flushing and flying over Blitz's head and landed 10 yards in front of him. Blitz...

    What is killing my pheasants?

I'm trying to figure out what is killing some of my pheasants. Sunday and Thursday morning I went to check the birds and each morning there were two birds dead. Three of the birds were missing their heads and the neck was missing the skin and feathers. The 4th bird was in the corner and it...

Clean a pheasant pen, hear a quail

Over the weekend I went down to the club to clean up the flight pen since it will soon be time to get things ready. While I was doing some work in the flight pen I heard this: I've been hearing and seeing quail and pheasant in the area still. I hope they keep going.

    Extended pheasant season

Looks like the pheasant season will be extended state wide. I like the idea for getting the most value out of the stocked birds on public land. I think only the die hard pheasant hunters will be out there late. "PHEASANT: Male only in WMUs 2A, 2C, 4C, 4E, 5A and 5B – Oct. 26-Nov. 30, Dec...

I took the dogs out today and decided to run them in the wood/swampy area in hopes to find some woodcock close to home. We sometimes find them in this area but not today. The dogs did have a point: Turned out that we found where the quail were hiding. These birds decided to run instead of...

I met up with a another member of our PF chapter and we made the drive to help out with the flushing survey in the Hegins-Gratz WPRA. The group I was in went to a farm that did not get any pheasants when birds were released 2 years ago. We managed to push out 2 deer, about 4 or 4 rabbits, 2...
