    Oddest Animal Pointed Ever

Out Chukar hunting this last weekend and my Griffon pointed a large Bobcat. Thankfully, the Bobcat was as frightened of my dog as my dog was of the Bobcat. It could have went south but thankfully it didn’t. Drew

    Chukar

I went out to the west desert looking for chukar and hunted hard. I only saw 15 birds and killed 4 for the day. I hope things improve as winter progresses. Drew

    A new taxidermy addition!!

I killed a beautiful old wild rooster late in the season and wanted to add him to my California quail mount. It is nearing conclusion. So, I thought I would share.

    Pointing concerns

I might get beat up by folks who are more interested in a beautiful point from a dog until you walk up and flush the bird yourself. However, from my perspective, while hunting a dog should only be expected to stay on point until that bird moves. During dry conditions birds just don’t hold very...

    Eastern Oregon Trip

Got back yesterday from the first Eastern Oregon bird trip of the year and I have to give Oregon’s Upland survey folks….Wow, lots of birds, just like they said. I had a ball, with two exceptions. Had a friend bring a 13 week old pup (poodle pointer) ( spelled incorrectly. His stated approach...

    If you wing a bird

Two personal observations. I wing shot a pheasant and I was convinced that it holed up in a tumble weed patch that was fairly extensive. My dog kept wanting to go up hill. After a few minutes, I finally did what I should have done to begin with (trust my dog). She went up this sagebrush...

    Bucket list trips!

If you bring a boat you can fish for smallmouth and crappie and when you see some vulnerable chukars on shore you can take a few minutes out of your fishing to kill a few. It is hand down the most fun you’ll ever have.

    Quick Trip To Idaho

I had the day off so I went to check out some new country. I ended up a Curlew National Grasslands. It was 84 degrees when we called it good. The dog was too hot to care by then. We ended up with 4 Hungarian Partridge and 2 sharp tailed Grouse. It was much better than yard work

Man oh man!! I am so excited that I have already started packing!! All my shells are loaded and my shotgun is clean. My dog is down to her fighting weight.......although I am not quite. This will be my first major hunting trip of the year. According to the forecast there are supposed to be...

I prefer elk. I would rather have elk than beef.

Thanks Rangerman. Great points. I hope that zero general tax $$ ever go into funding state wildlife/fish management. In my opinion it clouds science and politics.

One additional point of clarification. The #1 most significant driver of Pittman-Robertson $$$$ match to state wildlife agencies is non hunting ammo and gun sales not hunting license sales.

Thanks for referencing Pittman-Robertson. I do have a few clarifications though. Pittman-Robertson is not only used to match state "Game" programs and efforts. It is also used to fund "Non-Game" or 'Not Huntable" species within State Wildlife Agencies, although you are correct, more licenses...
