    SD trip 2023

How could we possibly not get your point?? BTW you’re wrong. SD is good partially because of the pay hunting. Where do you think all those birds are wintering, roosting or eating? SD realizes what a cash cow hunting is for the local economy. If you take all of that away and farmers decide to...

    First trip to SoDak

In good times milo was king in parts of Kansas especially adjacent to some grass. Both Quail and pheasants love it. You don’t see much north of Nebraska. You don’t see 1/4 of what you used to see in Kansas

2023 Iowa bird hunt pics and/or stories

So since this is Iowa I will share this again. I am kinda a hunting whore, if you say you have some private land I will give it a whirl at least once, regardless of your personality. So myself and a buddy joined a business connection and his buddy in Central Iowa maybe 25 years ago. He bragged...

This. You can’t fix a hunting issue while hunting. It gets fixed by repetition while training.

Unpopular opinion - dog caught a hen

So I would consider myself a fairly ethical hunter. I don’t shoot or catch more than my limit. I Don trespass, in fact I will count a lost bird in my daily limit. My last lab was an occasional hen catcher, particularly in snow. I got to where I could figure out when he was on one. His did kill...

The good.. the bad…and the ugly

That’s her favorite spot. I haven’t had a female for 30 years. She can be quite independent while still being affectionate on occasion. My males always seemed to be more clingy. Can’t wait to get out again

Probably nicked her tongue, those suckers bleed like crazy. My last lab had an extremely long tongue and actually bit completely through it. By the time I got him the vet it had stopped and he suggested no stitches. He lived his life with a notched tongue. Glad yours wasn’t too bad

Do you or don’t you tip housekeeping?

It is amazing at times but I don’t know why I’m surprised. If my dog took a piss on the carpet I would go find someone, apologize and offer to clean it up. I saw two spots, and my dog stopped at the baseboard several times sniffing hard and I suspect there was more. All of this helps to...

Do you or don’t you tip housekeeping?

Over the years I have spent many a night in a hotel while hunting. While I try not to trash the rooms, after 3-4 days of hunting they can get pretty dirty between boots and dogs. The motel this last week was pretty full. I saw a couple dogs pee on the carpet in the hallway, I can’t imagine what...

The good.. the bad…and the ugly

I know right?? I wasn’t short of breath at all. Raven had a good hunt and is starting to figure it out. She raced by me once then slammed on the brakes and did a 180 looking at me about twenty yards in front of me. She didn’t have time to do a full point and honestly I thought she was peeing...

    Iowa vs Kansas

It is sheer greed. We had an awesome resource here and it has been squandered. I haven’t seen a turkey here around my place in awhile. I travel through up in your area a few times a month for work and see little of anything. I did see a rooster up there over the summer and about wrecked the...

    Iowa vs Kansas

I don’t mind paying for a habit stamp, and I would pay more for a license in Kansas. I just really have little faith the money will be well spent. They are only interested in quantity over quality at this point here. Kansas is not a destination spot for upland anymore. Believe me they are all in...

The good.. the bad…and the ugly

I returned from a few days in SD . It was a spur of the moment deal with my oldest son. I broke a toe about 8 weeks ago and he wanted to get back into hunting after an 8 year hiatus getting a masters degree and starting a career/ family. I was finally feeling a bit better and thought I would...

    Opening Day in Kansas

A group from work was out hunting family ground out by Goodland. 7 guys with four dogs shot 4 birds hunting most of the day. Said they saw maybe 20 total.

Hunter harassment walking road right of ways...

Some years ago I was up by Aberdeen in December. We were on 14 heading south. It was getting late in the day on a Sunday. We were already limited and done hunting. We passed slowly by a tree belt and were marveling at all the birds on the road and in the ditch. We were rolling slowly and...
