    First hunt of the year...

Max and I ventured west to a shooting preserve for an initial workout - sort of a test to see how he fares, at 12 years young. Weather was in the 50's, sunny, no wind and did hit low 60's before we were done. He did OK but faded with the heat; however, after a long drink, he was ready for...

Sun Setting on My Hunting Career

Hey George, Sorry to hear that physically, things aren't going well. One never knows, at our age (84) that one morning we'll wake up with the next ailment that prevents any future hunts. I'm still planning on 3-4 tours in SD and hopefully...the younger guys can keep up!

    Bumper Color

Has anyone found bumper color makes a difference? I have a blaze orange bumper and normally the dog has no problems picking it up. Lately I noticed he would run by it - wondering if he's going blind? The dog is 12 and not showing blind tenancies. I did some research and found one trainer that...

Experiences going from one bird dog to two?

Bob: Can't imagine keeping track of two high-powered Golden's. I just have one...more than enough dog to keep up with, as he's a hunting machine.

    Golden Retriever Breeders

Mr. Jones: Thanks for posting a photo of your Golden's...however, was wondering what the straps around the rear of the dogs was about? Current Golden will turn 12 in September but seldom hunted "close." Quite a pheasant machine but needed continual prodding to hunt in range. Poor training...
