19 quarter sections were enrolled in CREP within 4 miles of my land in SD this year, half of it within 1-2 miles…it will take a year or two for the prairie grass stands to grow that were planted. Most of the land has some low areas with cattails, not too much overall…it’ll resemble CRP of 30+...

I hear you. Was just thinking in terms of the OP heading out in 10 days…I’d look at it all, but I’d focus on WPA/GPA, especially after such dry conditions this summer.

I’d expect you to choose CRAP over CREP….🤩

CREP, This time of year as well, over WPA/GPA? It seems like the latter 2 have better winter cover most of the time.

I’m sure I lost many more than 2, but I recall shooting 2 in about 5 seconds in early November in a food plot…both dogs ran to the first bird, didn’t mark the second, who was a runner, and there was lots of scent in there, and, it was very dry, and one of my dogs overheated...had been hunting...

Great post. I’m a fan of shooting at hit birds a 2nd time if safely possible, no matter how “dead” they are! Lots of “dead” birds come back to life once they hit the ground! 🤬

WPA’s…best thermal cover, cattails….

Having been there recently, the 511 cameras can give a slightly false scenario, as cover can accumulate some snow, but overall, the Mitchell-Huron areas aren’t bad…not much snow fell in the past few days in my areas….warm up coming! 👍👍
