You are correct in that I have no idea which one mine are. They are warmer than I like at times but I have stayed dry and free of thorns etc. I picked mine up at a show in a clearance bin so they weren’t marked but they have been well worth the $30 I spent on them
This is an interesting phenomenon. Typically the roost field is my most consistent one but the last 2 days I’ve experienced the same thing. Only 3 hens in the two days out of a field that has been a consistent producer for several years and I believe sees little pressure. Ended up limiting out...
I didn’t want to hijack the other pants thread so I’m starting my own.
Does anyone have a line on pants that are waterproof, briarproof and under say $125?
My current pair of cabelas dry plus pants are getting past their prime and of course they have discontinued them. Think I paid about 75...
If I clean the birds same day I save hearts and livers. If I hang them I usually don’t.
As for cooking I either fry or grill and they are yummy either way.
I’ve had great luck with the Mendota skid plate but am intrigued by the cuga might try one out as the skid plates are about 5 years old and showing their age.
I’d say numbers have been about the same as last year for me. Hunted several different areas and found birds in them all. Will agree that weather hasn’t been prime and birds have seemed spooky at times but I’ve also had them hold extremely tight a couple times as well. Averaging about 2.3 birds...
I would advise making sure you and your dogs have orange on and try to avoid the timbered areas. Other than that I hunt every year during rifle season and haven’t had any issues. Thinking of trying the nc area myself this weekend. Haven’t been there in a few years.
Glad you’re sticking around britchaser. I was always taught not to talk politics or religion in public and that’s probably still wise even on social media. Didn’t read the thread in question but one would think a post about the 2nd amendment wouldn’t be very controversial on a hunting forum...
Thanks to all for the replies. As so often happens life gets in the way so it’s probably not happening this year but I’m still looking forward to spending plenty of time in western ks!
Just to clarify, I won’t be staying home. If I don’t go to sd I’ll just spend that much more time hunting Kansas. My money and time will be spent in state however and probably fewer miles on the truck. I averaged 2.5 birds a day last year hunting wiha so real close to the sd limit but again I’m...
Question for those of you that are familiar with Kansas hunting and have also traveled to South Dakota. Is it worth it in your opinion?
I’ve been kicking around the idea of making a trip probably the week before the Kansas opener. Would hunt public and stay in cheap motels but between licenses...
I had no idea there were porkys in Kansas until about 5 years ago when both of my dogs came up with a face full of quills north of Russell. Youngest got off pretty light but the other required a trip to the vet and anesthesia. Luckily we’ve had no repeats though I’m very nervous when in that...
I've ran into a problem with my two male gsp's. Both are indoor dogs and have been together since the younger was a pup. They are actually father(4) and son(3).
Recently they have begun fighting in the house. At first it was infrequent but began happening more with the time shortening between...
I'm heading to the grasslands with my son this week mainly to see somewhere new and hopefully get a chance at some scaled quail. I've never been and was doing some research online. I'd like to find a map with guzzler locations but Google hasn't been able to help. If anyone has seen one before...
Has anyone ever had a dog that was hypoglycemic? My 18mo old GSP is usually full of energy and will hunt all day long but once we are home he seems to crash for multiple days before recovering. I get that he would be tired for awhile but my other dogs seem to recover much faster. I was at the...
Anyone got any firsthand weather reports? I'm thinking of heading out tomorrow to hunt Monday afternoon and Tuesday, maybe Wednesday. Hoping for some good snow to hunt in.
If anyone else is planning on being out and would like to hook up for a field let me know.
We made our annual Christmas vacation trip out west early this week. Monday we struggled to find any pheasants at all but we did see 3 large coveys of quail and came away with a one man limit. Tuesday we moved farther south in hopes of finding some pheasants which we did. We moved probably 20...
