I found this to be a very interesting video. Thought some of you might, too.

    Gas Prices

I'm not sure what gas prices are here? I buy gas from a locally owned gas station every chance I get. I pull in, don't have to pre-pay, fill up, go in and grab a tea and a snack, shoot the breeze with a happy employee, and then I drive away without ever looking at the price. The owner of this...

Semi auto or break action shotgun?

Shot a heavy over/under 12 gauge for most of my life. Picked up my first semi auto after last season ended. It is much lighter than my over/under. I've run several hundred rounds through it already without a single failure. I shoot it well (knock on wood!) and am looking forward to carrying it...

    New Gun Yips!

I've shot an over/under my entire life. I picked up an M2 this off season. I absolutely love it, but it did take awhile to adjust to the safety.

    Non-toxic shot: The whole truth

I just finished this webinar put on by the Iowa DNR. A coworker had texted our local CO to see if non-tox was required on a public area we were planning to hunt on opening day of dove season. The CO answered his question and attached a link to this webinar he helped to produce. He said since he...

    E collar introduction

Oh man, my dogs go bat crap crazy when they see me with a collar! I use a simple Garmin Sport Pro, the only time I've had it high enough to make a dog yip was when my first Springer took off after a coyote. On the rare occasion that I do need to use the collar, a setting of 2 is just enough to...

    Howard Vincent retiring from PF

When I lived in Nebraska I was active in our local PF chapter. I have a lot of great memories from our mentor hunts. One year, the kid I was assigned to missed his first shot at a bird. I reminded him to focus on the head of the bird the next time he had a chance. Shortly thereafter the dog went...

    Dog friendly motel near chamberlin

I always enjoy my stay's at Allen's. The rooms aren't fancy, but the people are great and most of the guests will be like-minded individuals.

Great thread, although it has cost me a little money!

Experiences going from one bird dog to two?

Last season I hunted both of my Springer's together. One hunts like the windshield wipers are stuck on high. The other hunts slower, so it hasn't been an issue hunting them together. I added another pup last winter. He is also a high octane dog. Although all my dogs hunt close, I think it would...

Is it worth going this year, and why I like pheasant hunting

Couldn't agree more! Unless the weather is ungodly hot, I plan on buying a MN license this season, just to get a jump start on our season. I'm sure most of the crops will still be standing, but it will be worth it to me to get the dogs out. If we find birds, that's just icing on the cake. I'll...

Garmin Pro Sport - Using Tone and Vibrate Mode

Roughly the same here. Two beeps to turn them. Rarely use the vibrate, or the stimulation.

Upland bird population will never fully rebound.

I don't think I will hunt in Kansas anytime in the near future. If that was your intention, well played!

So you want to hunt public land in South Dakota?

Finally found the time to watch the video. I thought it was very well done, although my trio of Springers much prefer watching Sage and Ace on the big screen!

    S.D. Wildlife Federation?

I have yet to chase pheasants in SD (hope to remedy that this season), but I do a lot of fishing up there. I just joined the SDWF. If they lobby for what is best for outdoorsmen, and support getting kids involved in the outdoors, then I can definitely see how this would benefit me.

    Retired guy- love to hunt!

Here's my oldest and youngest on the boat. Berkley (liver and white) turned 3 last March. Cash will be 1 in a couple weeks. Cash is 100% field bred, with a crazy pedigree. He's still looking for that off switch. The second pic is Benny. He's our "old man" dog, but he just turned three last...
