    Disappointed

Could not agree more! Used to look forward to stopping there at the end of our trip - no more; Found a 20 ga 870 LW barrel w/tubes that fit on my older fixed barrel Wingmaster; also bought 1st angle compensating range finder. That cave was incredible- Bass Pro acquisition was a sad day indeed

    Trip Report wk of 11/4

We completed our annual fall trip last week. We hunted a combination of public, private, and ditches. We ended up hunting 4 days, and limited each day. Saturday was pretty much rain on and off all day, so we made the best of it. Wednesday thru Friday were nice, albeit warmer (low 50's) than...

Finding Peace In The October Hunts

So sorry for your loss NDPheasant🙏 The outdoors offers so much more than our hunting pursuits; it’s a time for solitude, reflection, and healing. It’s all about family & friends, at the end of the day. Hopefully you all get together, as mentioned, sooner than later. God Bless you & your family

Opening weekend and Monday, Shocked!!! Kimball, Chamberlain, Platte area.

Well said! Our dates are set well in advance & deal with what Mother Nature provides - Last year we saw the most hunters in a long time - we go next week - so will be interesting - The financial aspect is a factor, as well as the individuals trying to hunt DIY - many of them simply don’t have...

    Odd Encounters...

About 10 or so years ago, my wife & I ran into a group of 6 guys from Wisconsin - they were really struggling & asked if they could hunt with us - not convenient for us, but we could tell they were demoralized - so we said sure & told them the public spot to meet us at the next morning it...

    If you wing a bird

Great photo JH! 2 years ago had one go into a critter hole - dogs knew it was in there - was able to reach in & pull it out - phez are resourceful & likely would have never checked the critter hole without the dogs

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

Nice surprise! Had a similar experience on the golf course last week - two hens and 10-12 poults dropped down right in front of us - about the same size - great to see - especially with all the rain late spring/summer

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

BTW - This sale popped up at Rogers today -heck of a deal! I have one of these; ordered another today - a bit on the heavy side; but if you are setting your tent in advance; & hunting with two or more people - these chairs save space

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

Congrats MN4! Was gonna reply to Gim regarding tents - I use one for archery or rain - the one I had weighed 16 lbs - so searched & found a lightweight Baronnett Hub blind - 8-9 lbs - think it’s a Prowler 200 - good time to buy one now during the off-season - if need be. Hub blinds are great -...

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

Missing a shot at a nice tom haunts (and humbles) me, so I focus on using those experiences to help understand why a "miss" occurs. "Peek", or lifting your head off the sight line, is a common cause for misses for all shotgunning pursuits. Also read how using a red dot helps eliminate misses, so...

Pheasants in the wind, a specific situation

A decent Wind swings the advantage to the hunter, for the reasons GH mentions. Not a fan of extreme winds, & had those twice last season Without snow, trying to get close to roosters on a calm day can be very challenging- flushed many a rooster close by using the wind to help muffle noise PS...

    Pump gun

Short shucking causes this in my experience

    Pump gun

Agree ND Pheasant - always bring a spare gun!! Also did the switch to semi autos 15 or so years ago - but almost always bring a pump and hunt with it a few days - longer walks = lighter semi auto - Pumps can’t be beat for consistent reliability
