    Rail road tracks

It’s private property same as any other private property. If they make no effort to keep folks out they open themselves up to liability. That said, I remember some crazy kids letting some air out of their tires and putting them on the rails and shooting rabbits out the windows. Stupid kids. I...

    CRP Disappearing Rapidly

Has the new administration eliminated the “no more than 85% of local rental rates” clause in the payment calculations ? I don’t recall the exact percentage but that stopped a lot of enrollment.

    CRP Disappearing Rapidly

The haying requirements are different this year. Last year I hayed about 25%, this year our county qualifies but none of my programs do. Don’t know what the difference is.

    CRP Disappearing Rapidly

Our local NRCS said new CRP will be $236/acre. That’s still not enough at current crop prices.

    Seeding native grasses organically??

You can do frost seeding, let frost do your tillage.

Time table for pheasants to “fully” populate new CRP.

I’m thinking other things would limit population before they got to those levels. You would have every predator for miles around going there.

Time table for pheasants to “fully” populate new CRP.

I’m probably coming to this with a “backyard” perspective. All our CRP is bordered on two or three sides by public land. Lots of places for the birds to be. If the CRP is a block without a lot of other places to be, then I imagine the birds numbers would be higher.

    Seeding native grasses organically??

Why no tillage ? Organic folks do tons of tillage.

Time table for pheasants to “fully” populate new CRP.

Is this what you call horse weed ? https://www.uaex.edu/yard-garden/resource-library/plant-week/horseweed-8-5-05.aspx I‘ve never thought pheasants used it much.

I think you are pretty close, 40 on 90 acres is alot.

    Swiitchgrass vs Mix

Didn’t watch the video but there are at least two types of switchgrass. One very tall and dense, the other not so much. https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_PLANTMATERIALS/publications/ndpmcrb11305.pdf

Dove Hunting - Is it a thing?

What part of Minnesota ? Some folks hunt doves here in Iowa, the DNR has sunflower fields they put out.

Which is the best hunt, point and retrieve gundog?

Coming from an animal science background, and reproduction a favorite area, I would like to ask this question. It‘s well known that a cross between two purebreds (F1) will result in offspring with greater performance than what would be expected from the mating of similar purebreds. Heterosis...

A morning that makes it worth doing.

That’s it. I think that attitude is held by a minority here.

A morning that makes it worth doing.

Sitting here on the patio drinking that first cup of coffee. Our farm includes a lot of hay ground along with CRP in addition to the corn and beans. When I had cows we rotated the pastures, MIG for those who know. The pastures got reseeded very few years and that kept them labeled as fields for...

    Shells? Bring Money

Visited three large sporting goods store in South Dakota, no target shells at all. Plenty of rifle and large load shotguns shells.

Am I wasting my time ?

Cutting hay today I saw two hens fly to the trough that I set out. They drank and then walked of into the surrounding weeds. Maybe they didn’t have to, but they did. I have seen many swallows use it, both barn and tree swallows.

    USDA/FSA

Tons of information available. The USDA as it relates to habitat is largely divided between the Farm Service Agency (FSA) and the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). The FAS is an administrative branch, they collect the records and spend the money, to a large degree. The NRCS is the...
