    Bird numbers coming back

Visited our son in Eastern Montana, he mentioned he has seen more birds than in the past. He is a range ecologist so he gets out a lot.

Put some hope in regenerative farming

Make sure the ground squirrels are the culprit. I haven’t seen a ground squirrel around here for years, it’s the pheasants that are eating mine. I’ve seen them go right down the row.

Put some hope in regenerative farming

Right. I must not have read close enough to see the location or the quail thing. But blanket statements are seldom universally true. Bean stubble around here has gotten many pheasants through the winter when no other food source was available. Don't know much about quail.

Put some hope in regenerative farming

I’m not going to comment on some of the statements made, other than I see a lot of pheasants feeding on bean stubble in the winter around here. Certainly more than corn fields, which are commonly tilled in the fall in this area.

I’m always amazed by the folks who think nothing of blasting raccoons, possums, coyotes, skunks, cats anything on another person‘s property

Put some hope in regenerative farming

Very good ideas, and a pat on the back to your tenant for the extra trouble he is going to. One issue, and it isn’t the problem you or your producer can have much effect on. There isn’t much money in these practices for corporate Ag business. Therefore they don’t get researched or promoted. If...

    New pheasant shotgun??

My steel receiver DA weighs 7lbs 6oz, my 1100 20 ga weighs 7lbs 12 oz. My son has my aluminum DA, I don’t have a weight for it. Then there is one lighter than that one.

    New pheasant shotgun??

Speaking of guns that carry like a twenty, the Browning double auto is a very hard to beat pheasant gun. Many have modified choke barrels.

I agree with the idea of shooting some clay targets before hand. Gun safety would be the emphasis with out introducing all the other stuff that goes with hunting. You can then casually talk about the hunting side. Gun safety is the most important aspect of any firearm related activity and I as...

    Is that so?

You are correct. Some folks just like to see how much attention they can garner.

I think it would, some of the millets might work also. Just posting this for information: https://www.johnstonseed.com/product/japanese-millet/ It does well on dry ground also, we used to make hay from it.

    CRP opened for haying.

Just got off the phone with the local FSA office. The CRP hasn’t been released to cut in our county as of now, even though we are on the list of D2 counties. It will be after the nesting season most likely but they of course they couldn’t commit to that. I don’t know what is going on with the...
