Do you take a poke at the long range birds ?

From the folks I know and hunt with (not all the folks here), I would say, I might be a better hunter than them...I try harder. I am staying with the dog, watching the dog (when the cover allows), I am always ready for a flush if I am in cover. So many people that I have hunted with, won't or...

What is the rub they have with DU?

Do you take a poke at the long range birds ?

We get a lot of landowners attending the local PF banquets here, many don't hunt.

Do you take a poke at the long range birds ?

You would think everyone here on a site like this would not fit into that, but reading posts and the often shared disdain for PF, I think it is more prevalent than expected. The Ultimate Pheasant Hunting site, should be full of pheasant fanatics. Maybe I did over-state things, but it is...

Do you take a poke at the long range birds ?

I strongly disagree. When you put your resources (time and financial) into this, it is a bond that you aren't going to have with just doing a 10 mile match through the prairie, it is different.

Do you take a poke at the long range birds ?

So you think that the majority of folks, that have no connection to the birds and land have the same feelings?....you are one of the few that might get it. You read everything posted here, most don't seem to even what support PF.

Do you take a poke at the long range birds ?

McFarmer is someone like myself that creates the cover that produces pheasants. I know what he is feeling. You put a ton of your time, energy and money into making a place from the birds to thrive and prosper....you kind of feel attached to them and have a certain respect for them. This is...

What do you lose most often?

I also seem to leave the dog's water bowl behind several times a season. For me it isn't that big of a deal, more like a bit of litter, which I despise. I use the bowls that some kind of microwavable food came in. Always have couple in my hunting dufflel bag.

Spirit Lake - coming alone with Lab - After Thanksgiving Weekend

Sunday morning I drove to the Lake Park/Round Lake area to get a set of rear tractor tires, I never saw any bird hunters...going up or back. I did take 60 much of the way, but still...it would have been an awesome morning to be out....and I also missed it.

Spirit Lake - coming alone with Lab - After Thanksgiving Weekend

A bit of weather and December will put 75% of the "bird hunters" on the couch.

Do you take a poke at the long range birds ?

These days I wait for close flushes, high percentage shots. I am not the best wing shooter, but closer shots and an IC choke in a 12-gauge with 1.25 of 5s, makes folks, including myself at times, think I am a better shot than I really am. I find pheasants are much easier to shoot, the closer...

I hope Chris Smith can take this fella and his boys for the time of their lives.

    Bibs for wet/snow

Aren't hunting costs traditional a bit long? I have an old Cabelas and an LL Bean and they are similar in length. They sure aren't ski jackets in lenght. What is your top layer in those conditions?

    Trulok choke tubes

So there is yet another variable to consider. Maybe if I had watched our SD boys' videos, I would have noticed that.

    How’s your shooting been?

Unless there is something essential missing in the soil or there is something toxic to them present, I wonder why they can't get established. I can see how that would be tough.

    Bibs for wet/snow

I don't have that issue with when wearing chaps. I wear longer hunting coats in snowy and cold conditions, that hang below the waist and low enough that the snow isn't going into my chaps. Are you wearing a short coat or maybe need to hike the chaps up a bit?

    Trulok choke tubes

We will have a lot of help here, pretty hard to know what you need without knowing much of anything....what size shot, amount or even what kind of shot you might be shooting. The OP says he hunts over pointers, so don't you think he should try shooting the gun first with the chokes and see how...

    Trulok choke tubes

What tubes did it come with? Do those not pattern well with your current shells? Shoot at paper at the approx. distance you have been shooting birds at (with the same shells you hunt with) and see if you need a different tube, you might be golden already. Seems like a frickin waste of money...

    Bibs for wet/snow

Bibs while birds hunting, sounds like a portable sauna. You will swear they are leaking after 30 minutes. Is the snow coming over the top (like waist deep snow) or is it creeping in under, down by your boots?
