    20 guage auto?

My Upland 20 with 28" bbl weighed 6.5 lbs out of the box. As a friend once said, "Sure, a super-light gun carries easier up the hill, but I'd like to be able to hit something once I get there." I usually prefer a breaking gun for birds, but mine weigh around 7 lbs. I'm old and feeble but the...

    How’s your shooting been?

For just those reasons I put a skeet choke in my bottom barrel. Didn't do me any good Monday, though. Big rooster got up close and turned to fly a slow crossing pattern right in front of me. I mean, like 20 feet in front of me. I'm thinking, good thing I have that skeet choke in, as I swing...

While I was out hunting this morning.....

Didn't measure it, sorry. But today's was a little shorter, and spurs were not quite 1/2".

While I was out hunting this morning.....

It was +4 which is usually too cold for me but there was little breeze so we went out. I knocked this guy down but the dog could not see it from where he was. Walked him to the area and told him to "find it." A minute or two later he went on point, and I knew it was our bird. When I walked...

While I was out hunting this morning.....

But you conveniently ignore the "problem" aspect. Feral cats waste an enormous amount of wild birds while having absolutely ZERO redeeming value. Pheasants and the hunting of them bring joy to many thousands of people. This guy weighed over 3 pounds and will be dinner tomorrow night. :)

    The dog caught a pheasant

It is very common on rainy days in high grass. My shorthair caught two big, wild roosters in a row one morning. I think that was when I gave up hunting on rainy days.

Looking for a new hunting vehicle

If I cannot straddle or go around the ruts I really don't want to drive that road anyway, because you are tearing up the road worse than it already was, which is very inconsiderate of the locals who have to use it.. No need, there are plenty of places to hunt that are easy to drive to and walk...

Looking for a new hunting vehicle

Just hit 5 years with this Gen 3 Expy Ltd EL as my hunting and cross-country rig. Wouldn't buy a new ANYTHING if they were half price!

    Transporting birds for others

Sounds like they better fly the birds home with them.

    Shooting style

You can do okay shooting that way but it is not the best way, which is to do all your barrel-noticing and lead-measuring with your subconscious. Doing it consciously also leads to a lot of perceived "eye dominance problems." But it does take work to switch to subconscious "aiming," let's call...

    Prairie Grouse

I was happy to pay for it but our vet in SD recommended against it. Guess I will continue to rely on cold weather to push them underground.

    Ammo for Clays

For practice with my hunting guns I want very light loads that are w/in about 50 fps of my 1,245 fps hunting loads.

Well, Goose, this youngster was snapped from a Suburban a couple of hours ago. He said to wish all "good morning." :)

    Grouse/Chicken and Snakes

And the golfer in Spearfish a few years ago. The likelihood of running into one seems pretty low unless you are near a p-dog town but if a dog gets a good bite it is probably not going to make it unless you can get anti-venom quickly.

    Grouse/Chicken and Snakes

My breeder lives near Rapid City and puts on a snake-avoidance clinic every year. I can give you his contact info if you want. However, I am not real worried about my dog attacking a rattler, I'm worried about him accidentally running over one while retrieving a bird or something. I basically...
