Private land access for a fee

Pull your 5th wheel to NW Iowa (Okoboji area) and hunt the numerous parcels of public land that area has to offer. There are a lot of public spots, they have birds, good cover and are re-searchable on the Iowa DNR website. Just be aware the Iowa shotgun season starts the first weekend of...

    Kepa Iowa 2021

A couple weeks ago I posted below about a leg / foot condition that had me off of work (Dr's orders) and me questioning the Iowa pheasant season and if I'd be able to partake. I posted a week ago I was back to work and progressing, enough so that this morning I ventured out with Kepa. I went...

    2021 Pheasant Season Pictures

How was the hunting on the Lower Brule reservation? I have many fond memories goose hunting up there out of the pits. Just calling up there for a report or reservations was a hoot, the old guy in charge always answered the phone with a horse voice and two words every time..........Goose Camp!!!!

If your coming up I 29 through Sioux City (100 miles before Sioux Falls) be aware Sioux City has radar cameras out along the interstate. Stay at the speed limit through there. The camera will take your pic and you will get a ticket on the mail the following month. If I remember correctly...

Pheasant season isn’t looking too good for me now.

Dang, pheasant season isn’t looking too good for me know. What started out as a foot issue a couple months ago has slowly transgressed into a major leg issue. I’ve been off work for almost a week now and on crutches most of the time. My doctor initially thought it was a knee issue and after a...

    Downsized Vehicle

Yes it does have a soft top, but it will stay closed up for the pheasant season. The public hunting parking squares are about as off road as I get for pheasant season. When I go out west next fall to Wyoming mule deer hunting the 4x4 system could get a work out then.

    Downsized Vehicle

Got my Bronco in, none too soon either. I’ve only got a month to set it up for bird hunting.

    Downsized Vehicle

Hmmm, sounds like you viewed the Bronco Sport. The Bronco is just as big as the Enclave, once you see one in person (a real full sized Bronco) the difference will be quite clear. Pics to come this hunting season :)

    Downsized Vehicle

Did you consider the Bronco? I went with the 4 door version over the 2 door version just for the pheasant hunts.

    1 - 2 - 21 report NW Iowa

Just got back from today's outing. It was a shoulda, coulda, woulda day. I hunted 4 spots and got into birds at each, saw plenty of pheasants but no roosters in range.

    1 - 2 - 21 report NW Iowa

I had to work today until 10am, got out to the hunting area around noon. Last weeks snow has most of the ditches blown shut but the one's where good heavy cover remains tend to hold birds. The first spot has produced before and again today it held birds. It's a nice cattail infested corner...
