The hatch is happening in NW IA and replanting plots.

You ever try fall planted rye ? I think that would have seed on it into the winter, and then it would reseed itself. Corn would certainly have a better chance of standing up to snow. None of my CRP can have food plots, all wet land (duck) program.

A map showing the federally owned property that MAY go up for sale

Seems to be dead for now : “Accordingly, Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough has in recent days been stripping certain extraneous provisions from the plan. Among the dirt washed away in this so-called “Byrd bath” was a provision authored by Lee that would have put for sale up to 3.3...

A map showing the federally owned property that MAY go up for sale

Seems the latest idea is to restrict the sales to within 5 miles of any municipality. However, the roadless rule is being lifted, which I guess is another can of worms, I’m not familiar enough with it.

A map showing the federally owned property that MAY go up for sale

Remember, these are the places that qualify to be sold, not will be sold. Only about 1% of the land that qualifies would be sold. But still, every acre counts, and once things get going will they go back to the trough ?

A map showing the federally owned property that MAY go up for sale

All senators vote, contact yours even if you aren’t from one of these states. It’s everyone’s land.

A map showing the federally owned property that MAY go up for sale

For your information, what the eventual outcome will be is anyone’s guess. Any ground on this map you are familiar with ? https://www.wilderness.org/articles/blog/congress-making-more-250-million-acres-public-lands-available-sale The map is showing 250 million acres, the sale is estimated to...

How many of you let birds go?

I hope your day gets better. I admit sometimes humor is hard to convey in the written word. What is it the kids do ? \s ?

How many of you let birds go?

Yeah, let them go, that’s what I do. Usually I fire a warning shot to condition them and make them more likely to survive the next guy. Yeah, that’s what I do.

The hatch is happening in NW IA and replanting plots.

Be careful, like granny said, “Razorbacks are a mean drunk.”

The hatch is happening in NW IA and replanting plots.

I wonder if you spread the corn on the planted area if they would pick that instead of digging ? Do you plant purchased seed corn or just plant field corn ? I think if I was to do a plot I would just plant bin corn. Unless of course you need GMO for weed control, then you can’t, legally anyway...

The hatch is happening in NW IA and replanting plots.

Dad talked about going out with cars at night and clubbing them for the same reason.

The hatch is happening in NW IA and replanting plots.

Wow, how big an area are you talking about ? My dad’s tales of killing pheasants in the corn fields have some basis then ?

Looks like NRCS is going to have some major cuts.

This is a huge budget, and I don’t feel informed enough to make comments yet. Some of these cuts may be moved to other agencies as I understand. The budget: https://www.usda.gov/sites/default/files/documents/2026-usda-budget-summary.pdf NRCS section is pictured here.

    Seeded some EQUIP ground today.

Well, it is a food plot. They need to learn two in bush is worth one in the hand. The cultipacker is exactly as wide as the spread of the seeder, really makes it easy to judge the spacing of the passes. Sounds like a rain Tuesday.

CRP Contract Length, 10 or 15 years?

I have some in both maturities. It is the classic bird in hand/bird in bush. Tell me what 10 years will bring and I can say which is correct. If a new farm bill ever gets written the maximum rent may increase. Farm prices stay where they are the current rental rates may look pretty good in the...

    CRP species mix question

What are folks in other counties seeing for a species mix for the CRP acres they have enrolled ? I seeded another 5 acres yesterday, beautiful conditions and now a nice rain today, should get a good stand. We have an excellent staff at out county NRCS office, hope we can keep them. Gone are...

    Land prices.

I guess I’m of the camp that folks can do whatever they want with their land without being guilt tripped about it. I probably have an unhealthy attachment to this farm, but if my heirs want to sell I won’t be haunting them.

    Good afternoon, everybody.

They look good, what kind of stone are they ? I wish you all the best but I gotta say the “Big Cocks” thing gets a fast no from me. I’ve always thought that was a juvenile saying. But, that’s just me maybe. Welcome.
