How far do you let your dogs go?

What is the left hand semi auto ? One of these days I’m going to buy a new shotgun, I’d like a left hand.

    Shooting once

I’m more of the opinion to each their own. If they enjoy the hunt I don’t really see the point of trying to get them to conform to what might seem proper to me. Safety is always an exception however. The older the person is the less likely they will take your instructions to heart. Let them do...

Well, you are wrong, bless your heart.

    Shooting once

Jebus, I’d like to see a video of a fifth shot kill, especially with a pump. For me it’s the hunt, not the kill. Watching the dog work and being with like minded folks is 90% of it. I once hunted with a fellow who emptied his auto on a straight away and yelled “Kill that f***er” to the poster...

Do we need to get away from plastic ?

I enjoy doing some research on a rainy morning. Is this the type of AI driven crap we are going to have to contend with ? Odd it’s a (.org) site. Maybe the Dead Internet theory isn’t far off. Here is an interesting article...

Do we need to get away from plastic ?

Yes, it is hard to pick them up sometimes. Maybe if it was a hunter ethics thing to pick up as many (or more) as you shoot, yours or others. I always put any trash I run across in my game bag, cans, grocery bags, whatever. I imagine the water proof nature of plastic hulls was the driving force...

Do we need to get away from plastic ?

I posted some photos earlier related to the amount of spent hulls littering the public hunting area here. While hunting opening day next to a popular waterfowl spot the shooting I could hear was nearly continuous for an hour around opening time. Plastic shells have been around for what, 60...

    Shooting once

I guess it all depends on personal choice. Of the obviously wounded birds I’ve seen I think many of them are a result of second or subsequent shots. I hate to see one fly clean away then flinch on the second shot. Certainly a bird wounded but not dropped on the first shot requires a second...

    Shooting once

Huh, never heard of shooting twice at a bird going down. I’m not the best of shots so I don’t take anything very far out there, and with a full choke the birds are pretty much dead or laughing.

    Something going on ?

So 6:30 here and I’m on the first cup of coffee. There is a steady line of lights going up and down the road. Something I don’t know about ? Mostly old beat up Fords, missing tail lights.

    Spring Run

Mostly out yes. The elevators are getting full and running shortened hours. I would guess by Saturday the corn in this area will be 80-90% out.

    Spring Run

I know some of you folks hunt the Spring Run complex in Dickinson county. We have been combining the corn across the fence and man have the birds been flying out of there and into the slough areas. Most I’ve ever seen in a loooong time.

    Taking corn out

I’m thinking most all the corn will be out by the time opening day. Seeing a good amount of birds, not much different than last year. Seeing some softball sized birds, thought they were partridge but then the hen got up.

    New NW Iowa Pheasant Hunter

Wow Danman, that is a very generous offer you shouldn’t pass up. Lots of public in Clay, Dickinson and the surrounding area also.

    Soybean price helps habitat

You of course realize that China is placing the tariffs on the soybeans due to our government placing tariffs on their products, right ? I mean I assumed you did, I assumed everyone did. Maybe I assumed too much. Export tariffs are not a thing in this discussion. You think the Chinese placed...

    Soybean price helps habitat

Ha, yes I had forgotten about that part of the quote. I pay to get your product to me and I pay to get my product to you. (Basis)

    Soybean price helps habitat

“A tariff here means nothing.” This is patently wrong. Unless of course you feel a hit to person’s livelihood means nothing. It is a demonstrable fact that soybeans in North Dakota are worth less at the farm due to China not buying. Maybe you are not familiar with the concept of “basis” in the...
