    How’s your shooting been?

It wouldn't explain clean misses, but be aware that the factory chokes that come with the new-style sweet 16's shoot a much more open pattern than how they're marked. I got mine not long after they came out, Fall of '17 and I had already read a few things online about the chokes being very...

    How’s your shooting been?

The perils of hustling to keep up with a dog that I sometimes refer to as "my big-running flusher" :ROFLMAO:

    How’s your shooting been?

Up and down for me. Some days very good, other days not good at all. Been bouncing around between a few different guns/gauges. I took a bad fall while hunting a couple of weeks ago and ended up in the ER. Turned out no ribs were broken, just severe bruising. Incredibly painful. It's getting...

Do u shoot a second time at a bird that’s been hit?

If the opportunity is there and it's safe, I'll take another shot at a bird going down. I used to hunt without dogs so my mindset is always gonna be that they can't be too dead.

Newbie in Sioux Falls looking for partners

For hunting without a dog, I would recommend walking ditches along gravel roads and 2-track section-line roads. Look for good cover in the ditch, next to harvested corn or soybeans. When you shoot a rooster flushed from a ditch, there's a real good chance it falls in the harvested field and is...

    Corn Harvest

From what I've seen, I'd call it 85-90% harvested. In the past week I've been from Sioux Falls out to nearly Chamberlain, and south down to about highway 46. With the weather warming back up now, I would expect the rest of it to be gone in the next few days.

    Ground-pounding opinions

This. Switching the safety off is part of the motion of mounting the gun.

    Corn Progress 2025

I usually don't hunt that far south, but decided to check it out some this year. Definitely more birds west and north of there, but I've seen decent numbers down there. Lots of public, but quite a few WIA's with crops but no cover.

    Corn Progress 2025

I was out and about a good bit this past weekend in Hutchinson, Yankton, Bon Homme, and Turner counties. I'd say in that area the corn is about 80% harvested. Looking at the forecast for this week, I'm guessing the rest will be gone very soon.

    20 guage auto?

My suggestion would be the Franchi Affinity. I've got the 12ga camo version as my main duck gun, and my wife has the 20ga. It's her main pheasant gun. When I'm hunting alone, I'll often carry her 20 because it fits me perfectly and I shoot it well. My 12ga fits me perfectly too, but it's 6.8...

I think he was asking about the size of the out of state hunters, but I'm not sure.

    Hunted some really thick CREP.

There are definitely some areas of SD that got rain at just the right time for the cover to go bonkers. I've been on a couple of CREP spots where the bluestem was above my head and I'm 6'1". Been on a few where it's the normal waist-high as well, (but plenty thick) so I guess it just depends...

    My Pheasant Hunting Farewell

Hope you'll still hang around here and offer advice. You mentioned using liner socks in a thread way back 8-10 years or so ago. I gave it a try and found it to be a real game-changer. Good luck going forward!

    First Hunt Next Week

I agree. Very little public land around Gregory. Quite a bit more 50-60 miles east.
