Insulated SS vs covered plastic dog kennel temperature comparison? Warmer...Cooler?

I have a 2 hole SS and aluminum insulated box(3" on top 1.5" on the sides)(I think). The dogs are very comfortable into the single digits, and on the hot days too, if the fans are running. Get a Sensor Push remote temp sensor and put it in with the dog that doesn't chew. They are great for...

    Take-aways from this season

Things that sound to good to be true usually are! I've tried this trick and my wrist was warm in a small area...But my fingers were still cold, it was damn cold that day so maybe it works on warmish days.

Look I really need help on this one

SD is still open, and the birds are plentiful but Jumpy as heck. 2 of us hunted 3 days and ended up with 18, 19 if you count the hen the pup caught. We flushed 100's of birds at 100+ yards but enough held tight. Public was actually as good if not slightly better than private, I know hard to...

    And So It Begins Again

Doc (right) is already turning into a outstanding upland dog. He and Ty produced 3 limits the last 3 days in SD.

Training an old dog new tricks

I have a drill one of the best young dog trainers in MN taught me. I use it on young pups but it works just as well on mature dogs. Put on your game vest and put a few thawed bird in the pouch. Ducks, pheasants, pigeons, it doesn't matter. I use pigeons as they are easy to carry and cheap...

    Glove review

Try the Sitka upland glove. They are fantastic. I have used Bob Allen shooting gloves for years, but the Sitka gloves keep my hands warmer and are more durable. Just take a deep breath before looking at the price.

Try Diclofenac topical for equine, it is magic for humans kind of like how Rimidyl is for dogs.

Gear That Lasted At Least A Decade?

Instinct jacket and pants, when they first came out out. Not the crap Bass Pro is now selling under the same name, heck you can say that about most anything from Bass pro. Stormy Cromer Buck Knife I got as a high school grad gift from my only sister and her husband (1984). I am 58 and have...

How to stop playing with bumper?

How old is the dog, and breed? He sounds young and possibly not a retrieving breed, but it doesn't matter much as my advice is the same. I'm going to go in a slightly different direction. The command he is disobeying is the "here" command. I would do obedience work with a check cord and...

    Golden Retriever question

I can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Golden when I go hunting. But Joel knows who I hunt with..... I am a bit of an anomaly, between Thistle Rock, Bewitched, and Ho Hum I am always surrounded by burr catchers :) .

I don't mean to be a broken record, but another weather question

Weather extremes will play a part but near average conditions will not matter much. Pheasants like most animals are creatures of habit, heavy cover for roosting, and fields for feeding during the day. I don't know if this true but it seems logical that they would head to the fields earlier...

Does the flushing dog see the bird and if yes, how often?

OP in your scenario I'd bet she was seeing the bird, remember dogs eyes are very different than are own. Their ability to see in the dark and pick out movement is crazy superior to ours. The whole rods and cones deal.....I don't understand it. I cant say how often they see the birds as its so...

    Cold conditions better they say

This isn't accurate information. EIC doesn't cause joints to lock up, in simple terms its muscle weakness causing a lack of coordination often resulting in a collapse and often elevated body temp (107 degrees isn't uncommon). For unknown reasons it tends to effect the back end of the dog, and...

    Barbed Wire - Training

I've never had to do much for barb wire, I just walk them through it the first few times and they are good. The fence that scares me is the 2 strands of barb wire with hog panel below obscured with grass and weeds. They get used to splitting the strands down low, and then hit the hog panel.
