    First time Pheasant Trip SD

I remember being at Dakota Mart in Pierre the Friday evening before the Non Resident opener back before you could get your license online. Downstairs at the sporting goods counter people were three deep all around the counter buying licenses, ammo and even guns. It was nuts but a good experience...

Another first timer to SD Post

You will probably get different views on ammo as everyone has an opinion. I strictly shoot a 16 ga Citori on pheasant and or grouse. I shoot 2 3/4 # 5 lead and 4’s in steel. I really haven’t had an issue with either.

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

In areas of western Shawnee over to Lawrence we had 4-6 inches in a couple hours yesterday. Quite a bit of flash flooding.

Why did you go with the breed that you did and have you been satisfied?

She is a two year old Pudelpointer. I am more than pleased. She had a very good second year

    Unguided hunt…

That’s a good point. Funny how much different peoples experiences are when they go to SD to hunt. People here that have never been there hear stories of flushes that block out the sun and are disappointed when their experience is much tougher. Years of experience has taught me where to look and...

    My hunting buddy

I don’t know if i love hunting more now than I did when I was younger but I certainly love the dogs more and it seems to have an effect on them as they seem to be getting better as I age. My dad was a firm believer in dogs belong outside. Said you would ruin them and make them soft if you...

Governor Noem writes about her hunting dog

There is no money in being a moderate. If everyone got along and worked together for issues instead of always against, the special interest lobbyists would quit sending money. I don’t care what party she is from, the whole beating my chest to make others feel like I am a bad ass left me about 30...

Governor Noem writes about her hunting dog

The floor does get lower and lower. Reminds me of an old alcoholic I used to know. He said every time he thought he was at his bottom, he would borrow a shovel and dig a little deeper.

    Goose

Us few Pudelpointer owners don’t want him. I think it’s more than likely that the Bot portal was closed.

Why did you go with the breed that you did and have you been satisfied?

Man seeing that black Lab makes me sad I had 3 over the years but the last one was the best. He wasn’t going to win any field trials but in the cattails finding birds I would have put him up against any. He flat out understood those fuckers and the tricks they play. Because of the primary game...

    Dog Dies While At Trainer

I live an hour or so away from Perfection kennel and took my dog to them a couple summers ago. I did have some communication issues with the young trainer at first which were rectified by the owner. He has a good operation there and his videos are great and easy to follow. I never felt my dog...

    Broken femur?

Not a hunting dog but…. About 15 years ago my son left the gate open and our border collie got ran over by a pickup truck. I was able to get her out from under it and realized her front right leg was snapped with the bone protruding out. Rushed her to the vet and they preformed emergency...

2023 Season Pictures of Birds, Guns And Dogs

Man that bird on the left has a tail on it. Nice job on the photo staging. It looks like a good one

    Take-aways from this season

It depends. In cold weather I take wrist bands and tuck a couple in there with light gloves. In theory it warms the blood which warms the hands. May only be in my head. I am not a fan of heavy gloves or coats for that matter

    Great shots

Funny you should bring up an 1100 and embarrassing shots….. I was hunting with a buddy in Iowa in probably 90 or 91. We were walking on either side of a dirty fence line in a very strong wind, both carrying old 1100’s when a big old rooster popped up at about thirty yards. He screamed away then...

2023 Iowa bird hunt pics and/or stories

If you would have had a vest full you probably wouldn’t have had an opportunity to shoot your way out of the slump. Knowing you were short probably helped you out. Weird how that happens. Sounds like a good ending
