Remember that when Ukrainian crops don’t come in this fall. It could be very bad, and the time is now, not when it is here.

I think spring wheat is the one they want most. Remember why it is called a “Reserve” program, not a “Rooster” program.

    Rising Costs

I pumped 0.19 gas when in high school. The town had a gas war, remember those ? Three full service stations in town, now there isn‘t a place to buy gas in town.

    Rising Costs

But the further down your tank is the more you buy, the more you buy the more you save. I was just a young guy tagging dad around the farm. A feed salesman was out getting new business and told dad “the more you buy, the cheaper it is”. Dad told him to keep bringing it until it was free.

    Rising Costs

Should be better mileage I think, more oxygen in the air makes for better combustion. Do you idle at stops ? I go to town and see everyone letting their vehicles idle while in the store. One guy was waiting in the truck, window down and had the motor running. Couldn’t figure that one out. I...

    Rising Costs

“These days, I just end up sitting at holidays, eating food making it uncomfortable for everyone else/not talking, drinking beer and not saying a damn word about anything.” As a parent with kids I don’t always agree with I hope you find a different way to interact with family.

We did get shorted on the rain last year but it came at exactly the right times. Last year was record yields on very low rainfall.

    New CRP

Well my decision to enroll some CRP is turning out to be the wrong one right now. There will be some land coming out early if these prices hold. I don’t know what the penalty will be but a gross of near $1500/acre for corn in Iowa will be hard to beat.

Why do you got what you got?

Don’t sell yourself short, the hunt might change as you age but you will still be out there. I have hunting partners that are late 70s and just got new pups. I will be 68 next season and I don’t foresee any slow down. But then I’ve never been a forced-march, hunt-all-day kind of person.

    New CRP

Crop prices will be the end of new CRP, at least near term. The way current prices are going I can imagine some folks thinking of paying the penalty and breaking some recent contracts. Maybe that isn’t still allowed.

    Relocation to south dakota

A word to folks moving to the country: Don‘t move to an agricultural area and then expect agriculture to change in some way. There will be dust, there will be smells, there will be noise at anytime day or night, there will be big, slow vehicles on the roads, there might be chemical drift. The...

    What's this Kansas forb?

Most likely a legume of some sort, I don’t think birdsfoot but could be another trefoil. Could also be some sort of vetch. The flowers and leaves would help.

    New CRP

These payment rates won’t attract many acres, they just aren’t competitive. As was said above, there will be small problematic tracts enrolled like I put in. And for sure if everyone did it there would be a huge improvement in habitat. Right now I think the days of 80s or quarters being...

    New CRP

You folks are making me out to be some sort of angel which would be wrong. Read it again, if it were out in the middle of a section it would be high producing ground, and not be enrolled at these prices. But, it gets hit by deer and the trees sap light and moisture away, it isn’t producing the...

    New CRP

Signed up a little more CRP, it is a long narrow piece next to DNR ground that gets hit hard by deer and the trees reduce production some. The soil types however are top of the list. With the payments rates I don’t think they will get much good producing ground enrolled. It would be rented on...
