    Oddest Animal Pointed Ever

Pocket gopher. We were in the pasture watching cows during calving season and she was pointing at the ground, she would move a few steps, point again. I looked around at there were a couple pocket gopher mounds by us. She would cock her head to listen, wasn’t smelling.

    What grass is this?

My plant ID app calls it beardless wild rye. Not the best photo to tell however.

    What grass is this?

Neither one. Other than that I don’t know. Kinda tall for little bluestem, looks like some side oats in the first photo.

    Cripples

I always count an obviously hit and unrecovered bird as part of my daily limit. I’ve seen some amazing recoveries by dogs over the years.

    Iowa's opener is today.

Kevin, sorry to hear that. I guess every situation is different. As long as you have been fighting it, and I know how painful it is, it would be time to see a professional I think. Best wishes. I imagine it hurts to see that great young dog not going out, when I saw her work she(?) was one of...

    Iowa's opener is today.

We got four right in the first half hour, then an hour of not much. Still lots of corn in the field.

Governor Noem writes about her hunting dog

I’m glad your opinion is in the minority.

Governor Noem writes about her hunting dog

I saw that, from the NYT: “Ms. Noem’s new book also includes an error about when a phone call with Nikki Haley took place. That will be corrected in future editions of the book, too, said Ian Fury, the chief of communications for Ms. Noem. “It was brought to our attention that the upcoming...

    Party Hunting

Party hunting isn’t what the sport is about. I’m fine with a person continuing to walk with the group, just unload your shotgun For me the objective isn’t to see how many birds can be killed.

    grazing limitations

No, the Iowa DNR leases some ground out for grazing, it improves the habitat if it is done correctly, not overstocked. Many years ago I approached our local DNR about grazing some of their ground next to me. “Oh no, we won’t ever do that.” The next year they asked what it would take to put some...

Never been able to shoot the model 12 well.

I like to shoot a lot of older guns at the trap range. I’ve never been able to get the model 12 to shoot like the others, always forget to cover up the target. Well High Plains Gunstocks have a bunch of gunstocks that fit so I ordered a very plain Jane basic set. I honestly don’t care for a lot...

    Many of us are pigs.

I’m sure it’s just waterfowlers, and certainly no one here. Each spring the grandkids and I pick up trash around the lakeshore. Probably a half mile of shore line we usually get two bags of trash. Each year. Am I the only one who makes every reasonable effort to pick up my spent shells ? This...

Pay to Play rates in SD

Ah, this place needs some sort of secret sarcasm sign. Maybe *** following the post. Things slip by me, but then I jumped into this at the end. I haven’t visited for a while, click “What’s New” and see threads on pay to play and chokes. Huh. As far as the chokes, most of mine are fixed so I...

Sounds like a no from the USDA

Sold the hay today. Sold for $50/ton less than before the release of the CRP, at 5.5 tons/acre that kinda stinks. They had a huge bunch of hay, much of it had native grass in it. Huh. I’ve got a good size patch of CRP we burned this spring. Switch and bluestem in prime stage right now. Kinda...

Sounds like a no from the USDA

I took some hay over to the sale barn. They have hay coming out their ears today. All of a sudden there are tons of grass hay coming in, most bales have switch and bluestem in them. I wonder where that stuff is coming from ? Not supposed to be able to sell the CRP hay, at least that has always...

Sounds like a no from the USDA

I have been trying to peddle some grass hay. I talked to a prospective buyer and he told me CRP will be released this coming week. He is a level headed person not inclined to rumors. Anyone else heard rumblings ? I burned some bluestem and switch this spring that is in prime hay condition.

    Drainage Ditches?

Drainage ditches in Iowa are privately owned by the adjoining landowner. All the ones I know of anyway.
