CRP Contract Length, 10 or 15 years?

I have some in both maturities. It is the classic bird in hand/bird in bush. Tell me what 10 years will bring and I can say which is correct. If a new farm bill ever gets written the maximum rent may increase. Farm prices stay where they are the current rental rates may look pretty good in the...

    CRP species mix question

What are folks in other counties seeing for a species mix for the CRP acres they have enrolled ? I seeded another 5 acres yesterday, beautiful conditions and now a nice rain today, should get a good stand. We have an excellent staff at out county NRCS office, hope we can keep them. Gone are...

    Land prices.

I guess I’m of the camp that folks can do whatever they want with their land without being guilt tripped about it. I probably have an unhealthy attachment to this farm, but if my heirs want to sell I won’t be haunting them.

    Good afternoon, everybody.

They look good, what kind of stone are they ? I wish you all the best but I gotta say the “Big Cocks” thing gets a fast no from me. I’ve always thought that was a juvenile saying. But, that’s just me maybe. Welcome.

    Future of CRP ?

I was told at the FSA office today they are once again accepting land into CRP, until the latest round of money is gone.

    Early heat not good.

It seems hen pheasants like cover that they can see over the top of, something that was cut last fall and will grow knee high. Alfalfa seems idea for them. Early spring seeded oats is also good, and of course fall planted rye or wheat. Other than that I’ve never noticed any pattern.

    Early heat not good.

I always try to delay first hay cutting as long as possible. The alfalfa money making fields can wait only so long however, quality declines rapidly. Usually when we cut alfalfa we find about a third nesting, a third just hatched and a third baseball sized fliers. This year alfalfa in northern...

    Land prices.

So it was aliens then. Science is pretty much an open book, there aren’t that many different sources of energy in the universe. Reversing gravity would be way cool. I’d like to see a link that you have available, the pyramids are an interesting topic.

    Land prices.

Recent history has shown that farmland bought at nearly any price has been a good buy. With appreciation, prices one day are seen to be bargains five years after. That works until it doesn’t. Folks with cash in banks try to get “that one next door” and hope to make it work before the bottom...

I think Remington of old could have made it work, it was about this time the accountants took over.

    Rem 105 CTi questions

I’ve always looked at them as a left handed shooter. I wonder with the bottom ejecting pumps being successful they couldn’t make a gas operated slide work ?

    Corner crossings

Nah, takes all kinds. Anyone who is influenced to trespass based on one person’s views is going to trespass anyway. My opinion only.

They are interesting shotguns, parts are nearly unobtainable from what I understand.

    Future of CRP ?

Our first piece enrolled was a pilot project, we have a very active NRCS here. The five year enrollment is confusing, in addition it can not be reenrolled. Kinda odd. Our first patch I didn’t see any seeding requirements so I put down some native grass thinking at the end of the 5 years it might...

    Future of CRP ?

No, we looked into the grassland program, it is more for the western states. In our area alfalfa is treated same as corn and beans for cropping history. If I had no tilled orchard grass into the pastures and treated it the same, the fields wouldn’t have qualified. Interesting note. One 25 acre...

    Future of CRP ?

I’m not sure it is uniform across the country but alfalfa is considered an insurable crop here and counts towards cropping history for CRP eligibility. We always rotationally grazed our pastures, every five years we no tilled alfalfa into the old pasture and cut it for hay a couple years, then...

    Future of CRP ?

Just got confirmation my EQIP application got accepted. EQUIP set aside is primarily a water quality program, the acres are small and need wetlands. This one is five acres and has a vertical intake on it. Those are the orange tile things sticking up in fields for those who don’t know. Every one...
