I did spend a month plus in southern Arizona, chasing desert quail. Rumor had it Gambels were decent populations, scaled were way down due to drought. I found cover very bare even in ungrazed areas. The hunting was slightly better than the previous season but only marginally.

I had a mature pointing dog who was gun shy. The trainer had her for 7 weeks …. His daughter 7, and wife helped do some remote releases and distance blank shooting. I gave the family gift cards , separate for daughter for Christmas! We are 95% fixed!

Didn’t go to NM this year. It was tough last year. Have been on Arizona this last month. I think it’s a bit better than last season. Another rain is coming tonight, a local rancher told me he has had more rain in December and January than all last year. Might kick the desert quail up finally!
