    It Looks Grim

I actually did decently on quail around home last season (Chautauqua and Montgomery Counties). I could usually put up 4 or so nice coveys in a few hours of hunting. If you stop and listen in my part of SEK, you will hear quite a few whistling. Not a ton of them by any means, but there are birds...

    It Looks Grim

No, I have not posted that. That’s westksbowhunter’s perspective on things. You must be confusing the two of us. I’m a young buck, born in ‘97, so I can not say what things were like in regards to hunting in the 90’s. I only have what I’ve heard from others.

    It Looks Grim

Again, you put words in my mouth. I have no doubt that the hunting (for everything) was a lot better before my time. I have also not been “fooled” by the KDWP. I have plenty of the same grievances with them, as we all do. I was born here, live here, will die here, and spend every day out here. I...

    It Looks Grim

I’ve never once said that. I have absolutely no problem with out of state hunters. Many of them are my good friends. It’s your disdain for this state and it’s people that I take umbrage at.

You didn’t miss anything. It was entirely bullshit.

    It Looks Grim

I looked at the radar frequently, and it seemed to have split you, Jeff. It was a good sized storm. Rained all day here, yesterday. It’s a muddy mess now, which I’m sure glad to see! Probably too late to make much of a difference, but I’ll take every drop that we can get. It was also a nice...

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

Milo is still alive, but yields will be low. Irrigated corn will still make alright, but yields will be below average due to the intense wind and heat. Dry land corn is pretty well shot. A lot of it probably won’t even have enough biomass to be worth chopping for silage.

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

Same here. 20/100ths at the ranch. Not enough to do any good. It sure was a light show though, and started some fires around Dighton. I was at the bar in Healy, and every fire truck in Lane County was headed that way.

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

I surprisingly saw a couple of nice sized broods of pheasant chicks while crop scouting today. Chicks were pretty good sized.

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

It was 110 here the other day, with 30+ mph winds. Felt like being in a hair dryer.

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

I’m a crop scouting intern in far Western Kansas for the summer, and I cover a tremendous amount of country over 5 counties every week. The situation is ugly out here. This is becoming just as bad of a drought as 2012. High winds, daily 100+ temps, and no rain of any significance for a long...

    Heat wave

This drought worries me more than the heat. It’s bad where I’m at in far western Kansas. A lot of talk about 2012 around here, right now. I’m still seeing birds and chicks, but this has to be hard on them.
