Hunting with my buddies on their private ground my buddy hit a rooster 2x and I couldn't safely shoot until it was 60 yards. Had a strong tail wind behind it and I just put a good lead on it and it folded up like a wet rag. Just didn't want to see a cripple get away to suffer.

Heard Lake Lillian had 10"s of rain. Lot of rain in the nw corner of S.Dak and some drains to Minnesota.

The first thought is more birds? But there are probably a number of things. A long season which includes allowing hunters the evening golden hour. Accessible public ground groomed for hunting . And last but not least tourism/non resident hunter. The S.D. Pheasant hunt is on many bucket lists.

No doubt some will get by you but you are hunting them not trying to eradicate them.🙂

Not being argumentative but..... a experienced dog works the wind no matter which way you are going.

I always try and hunt down and back and down and back to push the birds to the end.

Around Brookings it hasn't been near enough. Under a 1/2" a couple of times but warm/hot temps with wind this next week aren't going to do anyone any favors.
