    Earning Them Now...

With only a couple weeks left in the season and October weather continuing in western ND, we are earning every rooster. Went out Sunday, put on 4 miles or so. The Crew put up lots of hens but wild flushes were the rule for roosters. I mean a cough or crunching catttails was enough to wild...

Dog Hair! I've got it everywhere! - What brush/comb to use

Purina Pro Plan, Eukanuba, 4Health (Tractor Supply's signature food), etc... The difference between premium food sold in farm supply & feed stores and the cheaper stuff sold in Walmart and grocery stores is the quality level of the ingredients. If you compare, for example, the ingredients of...

    I hate this!

Having lived in the rural areas of a rural state since the early 80s, I've found that rats show up where ever there is food for them. You have horses, poultry or goats? You have rats...

    Railroad tracks

RR track right of ways are controlled by the RR, and understandably they don't want anyone other than their employees on their land for liability reasons. It was never legal to hunt RR tracks, at least in Minn where I grew up and here in ND. It was just that nobody cared in the 60s & 70s...

    Tail Length

A couple weeks ago on the way home from work I came across half a dozen roosters feeding in the ditch a mile or so south of the house. One of those had a tail considerably longer than the rest, and I would go so far as to say the longest of any rooster I saw alive or dead this year. I would...

    I hate this!

Concur completely... Of the Wrecking Crew, two could care less about rolling in a stinking mess, but Boogie can't resist it. If there's a rotten carcass/guts or cow patties in the area, she will find & roll in it...

    Crosby / Divide County

Good advice. I lived in eastern ND for over 30 years before I retired from LE and moved out here to western ND. I would come out here to hunt in the Fall, and I learned to keep the tank full and not to walk 50 yards off the trail to take a dump w/o at least a small pack with the gear to get by...

Want a browning cynergy 20 ga or 12 ga !

OK, that clarifies your point. For my thin & dusty dime's worth of opinion, I don't think a 28" barrel on an O/U makes that big of difference in follow through as opposed to a 26", but for me it makes a difference in handiness, storage, transport, and field carry. Besides that, if one is...

Want a browning cynergy 20 ga or 12 ga !

Ok, I have to call you on this one. Are you seriously saying a guy will miss 99% of his shots if he uses 26" tubes rather than 28" on an O/U because he forgets to swing? Seems unlikely. Just speaking for myself, I don't miss anywhere near 99% of my shots using my 26" Citotri. To the...

Dog Hair! I've got it everywhere! - What brush/comb to use

Welcome to the Lab Club, we have jackets... The Furminator is about as good as it gets for de-shedding. Quite often my backyard has piles of black & yellow lab hair from de-shed brushing. We find it in all the birds nests in the Spring. Sometimes we use the vacuum and hose attachment. Some...

They all keep an eye on each other & on me, and kind of do a natural Thatch Weave (WW2 naval fighter plane defensive weaving) to my front & sides. Harley is the most rangy of the group so I often have to page him back in, Boogie tends to hunt a bit closer, and Jetta usually closest of the...

My Pet Peeve During Yesterday's Hunt...

Just speaking for out here, there are lots more people hunting late season this year than normal. I would say it's because it's pretty much still October weather & doesn't require slogging through knee deep snow and below zero wind chill. If a guy is hunting on the weekend and hasn't hit a...

My Pet Peeve During Yesterday's Hunt...

Want to preface this and say that I'm not a fan of push & block hunting nor more than 4 guns in the few times I hunt with a group for anything. My concern is safety, as in my experience it defaults to the least experienced, least safety conscious, or least ethical member of the group. Nor am I...

Want a browning cynergy 20 ga or 12 ga !

Just curious, when you break a Cynergy does the safety re-set? It doesn't on my Citori Featherweight which I find odd considering the quality & engineering that goes into Browning O/Us. It's my one complaint about it, otherwise I absolutely love it for upland hunting... Just my 2 cents here...
