Yeah don't run the bell in the snow for reason you stated. Out in SD run silent most of the time except in cover I can't see weed movement. Part of my stubbornness is just justifing the cost of GPS for 3 dogs.
My lab started pointing after hunting with my britts, she also learned the point tone on the beeper and would charge in and flush the bird. Great when you are close suckered when out of gun range. The lab pointed woodcock, grouse and pheasants.
I don't use a GPS, I use the sportdog 1875 upland. I use the tone/ vibrate mode 99% of the time. I either us a bell with point only mode, typically grouse woods, or beeper in the thick grass/cattails in SD. I use the GPS to track me...lol
Remy, yes these came out low, shoot to the right and bottom Pic was his first time pheasant hunting. These roosters were about 100 yards apart and held for good points. Videos coming soon.
I need to attend phez fest, maybe this year.
Wishing all you upland bird addicts a safe and propous new year. Continued success on your late upland season. I hope to meet more members in person in 2024. I truly enjoy this forum.
