    PLEASE... I'm dying here!

Another nugget I picked up is the fact that about 20 quarter sections changed hands in my area, and the new owners don’t mow ditches, like the prior owner did. One of my farmer pals was ok with this, there’s a lot of grasshoppers, and he figures they’ll eat the grass in the ditch, not his...

    PLEASE... I'm dying here!

🤓 Took some time off, feels good being back! Retirement is going good…I move like molasses…always have, just a bit slower now! 😜

Thinking about a new gun, suggestions?

I had my ‘smith go through that gun last summer, cleaned the spring that cycles the action, and went through the whole action…don’t think I suffered the click last fall! But I was careful…

Thinking about a new gun, suggestions?

The Benelli Montefeltro Ultralight comes up like a dream…very light, but well balanced…not whippy, IMO…

    PLEASE... I'm dying here!

My $10 says it will be…good carryover, good weather conditions when it mattered, etc…some exceptions, of course…

Thinking about a new gun, suggestions?

Even a cattail or a tree branch/bough can unseat the bolt, not to mention the gun operator who purposely fiddles with the bolt to make sure it’s seated properly, then unwittingly unseats it!! 😝

Thinking about a new gun, suggestions?

Beware the Benelli “click” on the old models! The bolt becomes unseated, even 1/128”, and it doesn’t fire…happens! You have to be attentive anytime you close the bolt, or touch it. Happens to me once or more per season and there’s a bird flying away! The new ones supposedly are cured of this...

Thinking about a new gun, suggestions?

I have a beretta AL 391 gauge, love it as well, shoot it great…safety is forward of trigger guard, opposite of where it is on my Benelli’s…goofs me up at least a few times per season…but a great gun…

Thinking about a new gun, suggestions?

Steal some $, sell your body, buy used, or some of each….i can’t speak highly enough of the Benelli ultralight…mine is a 12 gauge…6 lbs…3 shell capacity…I have lots of guns, this would be my go-to if my life depended on hitting the target. The most important thing is the fit, and you can use...

    PLEASE... I'm dying here!

Yes, June was dryer and warmer than the past several years here in NE MN…drumming count issued by DNR as of 3+ weeks ago suggest good #’s…not like ‘24, but good. Last year was super crazy good, despite wet, cool June. Last year was an anomaly, for sure. Nobody paid any attention to...

    PLEASE... I'm dying here!

Just returned from a wedding in my hunting area, saw 8-12 farmers I know pretty well…they all comment emphatically that they haven’t seen this many birds, particularly chicks, in many, many years…decades, many say. This was my 4th trip out there since April, I knew bird #’s were good, now I...

    Ainley drawers for pickup

Drawers are 48” wide and 60” long, about 10” deep inside, and 12” deep on the outside. There is about 5” of overhang on each side providing more total width for crates, gear, etc on top. Good condition, I bought from Ainley in 2016. $1700. I travel a good bit between MN and the Dakota’s...

Wasn’t necessarily directing at you, AtTheMurph, just providing an alternative to the other participant(s) that you had wisely cautioned…sorry to condescend, my good fellow…😂 No effort expended, 2 seconds of my time? I’ll let you command this discussion, it would appear it’s in good hands with...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

Whether you can or not, I was simply referencing where I hunt in ND…I quit hunting Canada 20 years ago, waterfowl, too much bs for me. Bucket list hunt for me would be September prairie hunt in SK/AB….doubt I’ll do it, we do well in our current locales…

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

Different scenario, kind of, but good baseball hitters have extraordinary eyesight…they can discern much about the pitch thrown early in the release, often at 100 mph…I calculated that a clay pigeon thrown at 42 mph travels 60’ in a second…so, a pitch at 84 mph should get to the plate in half a...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

The bird is the object, obviously, and we get pretty good at using that to judge distance…sure, some birds are bigger or smaller, but I’d say 90% of the roosters I shoot are fairly similar. At present, I have no big issue of any sort with my rooster killing capabilities…knowing where to find...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

I think after lots and lots of pheasant hunting we get fairly adept at recognizing “the whole enchilada” and have a pretty good idea pretty quickly…or not. Once in a while I kick myself for not shooting, but I rarely shoot at a bird that’s too far away and kick myself for that…that pretty much...
