    Hand Signals

I use three hand signals with my dogs. I flash the palm of my hand when I whoa them. I point when I am resending them on a retrieve and I give my Vizsla the middle finger when he is blowing me off during a hunt test.

    Worms….

My male Vizsla tested positive for heart worms a few months ago. We've been doing the multi months long treatment for them. He gets retested on the 23rd. I give all my dogs a monthly med. Previously gave Spectrum but that obviously didn't work...so all got switched over to Heartgard. Always a...

Do you carry a dog first aid kit while hunting and if so what should be in one

From what I've seen, Felco C7 are the most recommended and what I keep in my vest. Channelock's will work too but are larger than the Felco. I keep them in my truck as a backup pair. https://america.felco.com/products/felco-c7...

Do you carry a dog first aid kit while hunting and if so what should be in one

Have a copy of your dogs shot and medical records with you(in your truck) and identify a local vet you can go to in an emergency....at least that's what I do on long trips. I have fortiflora around but only use if I need it. It works. I keep my dog food the same on hunting trips. I will bring...

RE: How do you get your dogs in shape, does walking behind a truck or 4 wheeler cause problems?

I live on a lake but can't let my dogs swim because of the water moccasins. I've seen too many to take the chance and they're not always on the water where you can see them. Hate em.

    New Tires: Falken Rubitrek?

I have about 1000 miles on them right now. MPG is similar to the Wildpeak's AT3W they replaced. I get between 21 and 24 on my truck. I haven't noticed much road noise on the highway. The Cooper's I used to buy were much louder. I got a couple days of driving on wet roads and they were really...

    Getting ready for the season

I've done both and thought driving was easier. Eliminates the risk of lost baggage. Make sure the guns and ammo are in proper cases and secure and you shouldn't have a problem....at least I didn't when I use to hunt up there.

    Getting ready for the season

My brother is older than I am and doesn't spend 10 minutes a year getting ready for hunting. Can't tell you how many times I've had to sit in his house for hours waiting for him to find his stuff and get packed up....when we were already supposed to be on the road. Drove me nuts....

    Getting ready for the season

Finally, a break in the weather so I decided to start cleaning what needs to be cleaned, charging what needs to be charged and buying what needs to be bought. Going through everything and getting things clean, organized and ready to go. I have a number of things I still need to get done between...

Cooking Own Meals at the Motel

Back in the day it was great to go out and get some hot food for breakfast and/or dinner. You used to be able to go to a local diner or restaurant and get a decent meal but the food I've gotten in the areas I hunt now has been awful. The last time I hunted in Idaho I stopped in a local place...

    Snake season

My bird dog club just sponsored a snake avoidance clinic yesterday. We had a great turnout but it should have been larger. Amazing to me the number of people that won't drive a few hours, give up a Saturday or spend $100 on their hunting dogs.

    Rattlesnake Avoidance Training-Kansas City, MO

Snake training went great today. Got over 50 dogs through, before it got too hot. One of the owners drove up from SE Kansas. He told me he lost one of his dogs a couple months ago to a snake bite. I really encourage people to get their dogs trained, if they live or hunt where snakes are common.

Grass Awn's - DEADLY for your dog

This thread really helped me 2 years ago when I had my dogs in a field in SD heavy with it. Turned around and got the dogs out of there. Always good to get a reminder. Thanks.

Cooking Own Meals at the Motel

Cooking from scratch isn't on the menu for me. I take pre-cooked meals and pre made breakfast sandwiches and heat them up in the room microwave.

    High protein and organ failure?

I feed my small GSP 2 cups per day and my 60 lb Vizsla 3 cups per day of Nutrisource 30/20. Also feed my dogs a high protein/fat food topper that I make myself. No issues. I tried Innukshuk, but my Vizsla did not like it at all. If I was still feeding that, I would be feeding my dogs less.

    Rattlesnake Avoidance Training-Kansas City, MO

We still have spots available. For those that hunt west of the Missouri River in MT and the Dakota's, we will be using Prairie Rattlesnakes in our training.

    New Tires: Falken Rubitrek?

Got the new tires installed yesterday at Plaza Tire Service which has locations in multiple midwest states. This is a new store for me and I like them. FWIW, most of the tire shops in my area don't keep tires in the store to look at but Plaza still does. Most have little inventory and they order...

    New Tires: Falken Rubitrek?

I will. FWIW, I found them for $214 per tire...which I thought was pretty reasonable.
