    HB 1236 Safety Zone Increase

I could see that. The sheriff or CO generally has to catch you in the act to cite you too though; simply hearsay from a landowner isn't enough...unless of course one admits to it on record. I try to stay on the good side of landowners; without them, I would have no place to hunt.

    HB 1236 Safety Zone Increase

I deer hunted on public forest land for 25 years. Still never encountered one. I've also fished public water for over 20 years. Still never encountered one. Perhaps it's just a coincidence but 45 years in the woods or on the water is a hell of a long time to avoid any type of detection...

    HB 1236 Safety Zone Increase

I don't have any skin in this game, but I can't imagine such a rule would even be enforced with any remote type of regularity. The odds of running into an LEO are about as good as winning the lottery where I hunt. Neither has happened in almost 30 years here.

    Pheasants - Cold?

I have seen turkeys roost in pine trees too. Most of the time they seem to prefer a tall oak with big flat branches, but a big pine might help alleviate some of that extreme cold.

    Shed dogs ?

Finding a sizable bull elk or mule deer shed can be worth some decent money. The caveat is that you generally need both sides.

    Released birds - the numbers

8 to 9 million wild roosters? I'm extremely skeptical of that number. But since there is nothing even close to a count being done anymore, I can't deny or confirm it with any data. I think there's more roosters in that state than anywhere else, but trying to gauge just how many there at any...

    Pheasants - Cold?

I agree. Not saying they aren't immune to extreme cold but as long as they can find appropriate roosting cover and food, they will generally survive. It's when we get really deep snow that basically removes their roosting habitat and their ability to find food, or a layer of ice, that will...

    Pheasants - Cold?

There is a massive warm up coming too. The pattern is about to shift towards spring.

And what's even better is actually driving around in your truck and looking with your own eyes. Boots on the ground trumps anything in a book or on an app.

    Doing an inventory

What's your point? You worried someone's gonna barge down your doors, break into your safe, and repossess them? If you're a law abiding citizen, you've got nothing to hide or worry about, ever. Mine are all insured. They have a lot of monetary and sentimental value to me. Locked away in a...

    Released birds - the numbers

Released birds have terrible survival...we all know that. They grow up in a barn with unlimited food/water and no predators. They're in line with domesticated poultry. If you think a barn raised bird can just observe the wild nature of a real one and duplicate it, you need your head examined...

    Family

My brother is 2 years younger than me and grew up in a big outdoors family. But he never took too the hunting realm. He did a lot of fishing with us, but only took him hunting twice. He requested to never go again. I think he has this idea that hunting is solely about harvesting something...

Cold temps and feeding the birds

Feral cats are a MUCH bigger problem here than natural predators like bobcats or yotes. Luckily, coyotes regularly hunt and prey on feral cats. So they are doing some good.

Cold temps and feeding the birds

I wouldn't feed them (yet). Given the conditions you stated, they can still access good cover to roost and food under a couple inches of fluffy snow. Bitter cold won't bother them if they have those other two items available. It's really deep snow and/or a layer of ice that inhibits their...

    Shooting Woes - Help Needed

Making an emphasis to hold my gun in the "ready" position with 2 hands years ago significantly increased my harvest rate. The amount of time required to grab the shotgun with a second hand, shoulder it, and get a good bead on a bird is often exponentially magnified when fractions of a second...

    Preferred Hunt Start Time

I don't specifically ask the landowners for exclusive permission. Lol that would be kinda ballsy. It just happens to randomly be that way at most of the spots I hunt.

    Pheasants Forever Banquet Ideas

Something to consider in MN, specifically, on the type of firearms offered in a raffle. MN requires a "permit to purchase" when acquiring specific type of firearms. Handguns and ARs fall into this category because they have a "pistol grip." You may want to consider this when raffling off...
