    Gun training puppy

Absolutely. Living in the country gunshots are a way of life. If we are in the yard my dogs have always associated gunfire with birds. Even my young one hears it and immediately looks for something falling. She doesn’t run off looking for it but definitely has associated the sound with her work.

2023 Season Pictures of Birds, Guns And Dogs

Something about those black Labs. I watched him direct one of his on a nice retrieve in a milo field last year. It was shot at and flew in a couple hundred yards away. Like finding a needle in a haystack

    2023 Trip Planning Help

Prairie chickens will be near impossible once they covey up when it gets cold unless you have time to pattern their flight paths. If you get within a couple hundred yards it would be a victory.

    Gun training puppy

Taking a shotgun out and shooting it around a puppy before any kind of conditioning is for stupid owners. Once you screw one up you’ll play hell fixing it.

    Private land hunting southwest Iowa

If you want someone to run up and check it out for you let me know. I’m only a couple hours south of there. 😂 spent many a day east of there around Bedford. Was a fair number of birds around there in the early 90’s

    Rates of guides

Twenty years ago I used to go with a guy by Lincoln Kansas. It was a high dollar put and take place. He had clients that would come in and drop 3-4k and they would release a bunch of pheasants for them. For 50 bucks a day we got use of a house and we would do cleanup hunts on the leftover birds...

    Climate change frustration

My post certainly wasn’t directed at you, I know firsthand that you care for your dogs better than most. I was simply relating an experience I have had

    Climate change frustration

Overheating is real and hopefully it doesn’t cost you a dog to figure it out. I live in Eastern Kansas and it is not uncommon to have high heat and humidity all summer. I was mowing my few acres one evening and had left the dogs out as I often did. It was about 7pm and really soupy outside. I...

    Chick Sightings?

We were hunting the same are at the same time. Shot my first birds out of big stubble fields. The best ones had been left a year and had sunflowers and tumble weeds. Didn’t need CRP with that around

How often do you encounter the law?

In probably 40 trips to SD I have been contacted and checked twice by game wardens. Both were federal and on and around Sand Lake. One was great and one was an asshat. We had stopped on a turn around across from but not on the refuge and were loading up and field cleaning birds as the hotel we...

Will SD GFP get back to basics?

It’s always the ones that scream about the sanctity of marriage…. Or deviants ( while hooking up in the men’s bathroom). Too funny

What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

I started eating a potassium supplement a few days before hunting, that and a bunch of water and I’m good

What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

So the last few years I have allowed my weight and lack of exercise get out of hand. I was miserable in the field last year and really was questioning if I would go on long trips anymore. About 2 months ago I decided I didn’t want to go out that way. I am now at the gym 5 days a week at 5am. Cut...

4, 5, or 6 shot for you early season pheasant hunters? And what choke are you shooting?

So funny how all of this has changed over the years. I started hunting pheasant when I was 12 years old shooting a model 37 featherweight 20 gauge. I shot whatever shells were cheapest and always 6’s. Killed a lot of birds till I was about 20. Switched to an 1100 twelve gauge and still shot 6’s...

What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

I think every truck in KC has rocks in the back of it. I have gotten a couple knocked out myself.

OMG you will send some of these guys in a coronary episode with that kind of talk. 😂
