    Mckelvie National Forrest Trip Advice

Over the years I have used them on all five of our female GSPs and have always used the medium size, 2 3/4” across the widest part of the paw. They have ranged in weight from 35-65 pounds. The lighter ones probably could have used a small but I don’t thing being a little big hurt anything and...

    Mckelvie National Forrest Trip Advice

I use the 1000 Denier boots from dogbooties.com. They are cheap, around $3.50 per boot and really last. I buy the fluorescent orange or pink so I can see at a distance if the dog still has them on and you might be able to find them if you are hunting the same area again. They stay on...

    Mckelvie National Forrest Trip Advice

This probably isn't the right way to do it but I put them on and turn them lose hunting. When I put them on in the house they would shake their foot and not want to walk but when they are out hunting they are so anxious to go they just take off and run.

    Mckelvie National Forrest Trip Advice

Halsey National Forest burned last year but it missed McKelvie. It was very dry in the Sandhills last year and most pastures were grazed and some overgrazed but we have been getting some nice showers the last few days in my area but not sure about up there. In the past, the stickers (I call...

New Garmin Astro 430 for sale. SOLD

This is a brand new Astro 430 that has never been turned on or registered. (Note the plastic on the screen). I needed a collar in an emergency and one wasn’t available so I bought the bundle. I kept this as a spare but don’t need it now that I have a 200i and my old Astro. I’d like $350 NOW...

    AL-48. 20 ga. Black Majic

I have one in the safe. Mine had the straight stock and was a nice gun and I shot it for pheasant and quail in Iowa for years. This statement isn’t fair “All struggled to cycle shells”. This shotguns require a little more maintenance and TLC than a Benelli but they are still a high quality...

    SPF Tenzing BV16 vest.

I have a bunch of strap vests that I no longer use and I need some space. This XL Tenzing BV16 vest has been used very little and is in great shape with no tears or holes. There is one small blood stain on the right shell pocket otherwise it’s clean. I took a picture of the inside of the game...

    Opinions on Benelli 828U

My buddy won one last year at a PF banquet and took it to SD this last fall without even taking it out of the case. He killed the first three roosters he shot at and continued to shoot it well both times we went. He has had a few FTF with the second barrel but it could be operator error since...

    What would you do?

These are the reasons why I only hunt with a few people. My wife, my buddy Dave whom I have hunted with since 1983, his son Scott and a new guy that we started hunting together this fall by going to Sd twice. This fall Scott invited a friend who brought 7 guys with him. I don’t think Scott...

    Old Breast Wound

I shot one once that had a broken stick, about a quarter inch in diameter in its breast. It flew well but it smelled bad so we threw it away.

    Shot a whopper pheasant

That is a nice trophy! I shot a big old bird in Kansas probably 15 years ago. His spurs were white like those in the picture and were longer than a quarter is wide. I had him mounted in a flying pose to hang on the wall since I didn’t have anyplace to have him standing.. Dogs are pretty smart...

    Weather Too Nasty To Hunt

The legal shooting time in Iowa for upland birds begins at 0800 and goes to 430 instead of sunup to sundown. Here in Nebraska it is 1/2 before sunup to sundown and I think giving birds another 15-30 minutes of light to find a roost can make a huge difference when it’s really cold, especially...

Sold Reloads?? Should I say something?

Depending on where you bought them I might resort to the power of the pen. Purchased at Wallyworld, probably not going to have an effect, but purchased at a reputable business trying to maintain a reputation it might work but you need to give them an opportunity to make it right first.

    Shotguns/Insurance

There is a huge price difference in gun insurance and every policy has something that make me question their value and how well they will pay a simple claim. One I looked at would not pay for the lost Benelli of the O P. The details are in the fine print and there is a lot of fine print to...
