    Luke

Lost my good bud today due to the heat. He was 8 and in his prime. Please everyone be very careful in this heat with your friends. He had food water shade under a big tree but it still was too hot for him. We we miss him terribly. God speed Luke. We love you.

    RIP Maggie Mae

Lost my old pal on Saturday night. Aged 8 years and one of the best all around good hearted dogs on the planet. Very very gentle soul. She was one stubborn hard headed english pointer but she was great and my little girls best friend. She will be missed.

    Worst Season Ever

I don't know about anyone else but this is the worst season I've ever had. I can't get on a bird to save my life when I do have time to hunt. A new job has me stretched thin on hunting time but the time I have been able to go has been very unproductive. Any one else been having trouble this...

    Worst Miss

The being fooled by birds thread got me thinking of my worst misses. I for one am man enough to admit I miss and sometimes miss badly. Here are my top two. - I took my dog to look for a cripple when another rooster got up 15 feet from me. It should have been the easiest shot of the trip but...

    How to make money hunting

I think I'm done working for a living. I've decided to just hunt from now on. The only problem is I need to find a way I can make money while hunting with out working (aka guiding or TV show). I thought about while I'm hunting I would strap a metal detector on my back and dig for gold but not...

    Poached Deer

This kind of thing makes me sick to my stomach. http://www.kansas.com/2011/06/22/1902959/texas-man-led-illegal-hunts-in.html Gives all sportsmen a bad name.

    Ticks

They are so bad this year. Every time I let the dogs run they come back covered in them. I have them on frontline and wash them one a month with flea and tick shampoo but they still have ticks all over them. Anyone else notice this this year?

    Mountain Lion Sighting

For you good folk in the Manhattan area a cat was sighted and reported to wildlife and parks today just south of Pot lake #2. It is rumored that the cat was seen watching some horses in a corral. This reported second hand to me so take it for what it is worth.

What are the best calls you have found or the ones you like best? For me it's: Slate: Primo's Freak Box: Lynch's foolproof Mouth: Can't use one In all I've probably spent my weight in turkey calls and these are by far the best I've found.

    Spay or not to Spay

One of my pointers is getting up in years (7 to be exact) and my vet recommends that she be spayed. I'm not sure if I should go through with the procedure for it seems unnecessary because she has no health problems. The vet claims that all older females should be spayed. Does anyone have...

    1st Snow

I got a chance to get away on Sunday morning and hunt in Northern Marshall County with about two inches on snow on the ground and no wind. There a very few birds up there but just getting out with the dogs in the snow is worth the lack of action. There is no equal to these rare experiences.

    Roosters Missing Tail Feathers

This weekend I shot a rooster with out any tail feathers. I have seen this before and was wondering if anyone knows why this could be. I have heard in the past that once a rooster is past his prime the others dominant ones will pull them out and have been also told that they can freeze to the...
