    Meindel Boots

My Danners are recurves and the Meindls are the Hunters (uninsulated). The other issue that I’ve had with my Danners is, although they say they are water proof, they are actually water resistant…..at least after a little wear.

    Meindel Boots

I thought I would pass on my experience with these boots on to you all. I bought my first Meindel boots. They are advertised to last forever and feel like broken in right out of the box. They are also sold as being so comfortable that they "walk themselves". The first time out was on an elk...

Hunting silently and way out of gun range

This topic seems to come up every so often. I hunt quietly. Most likely, from learning from my Dad, who would have given me a thump on the head if I slammed a truck door or wasn't quiet. A good dog knows what it needs to do without being yelled at or encouraged while it's hunting. All that...

    WY Sage Grouse Hunt

I just returned from a WY Sage Grouse hunt. I had a ball!! It was hot though (85 daily highs), so we limited our efforts for our dogs sakes to a morning hunt and a late evening hunt each day. Saw lots of pronghorn every day and it looked like the Sage Grouse numbers were up in the area that we...

    Franchi 48 al

I was able to get one of these from Franchi several years back in order to field test it. I loved everything about the gun with one exception. Whenever I set the gun down (more than very very gently) on it's butt, like when crossing a fence or taking a break, the action would open and unless I...

    Oregon Forecast Part 2

Malheur County Ring-necked pheasant Last winter the county received above average precipitation at higher elevations while mid-elevations stayed fairly open. Timing and the amount moisture was good for nesting conditions resulting in good brood production of upland birds. Over all hunters...

Production was only fair with 2.4 chicks/adult. Production across the county was similar in the North as it was in the South...

    Hunting with two dogs.

I tried to hunt two dogs together once.....only once. I had an older, experienced Lab and a young Griffon and by the end of the day, I was broken. Speaking for me there was just to much to keep track of. One would point and the other would be out in front or vice versa. I just couldn't focus...

Best way to break in new gun

I usually drop my new shotgun on the rocks first trip out. That takes the newness out right away.

    Importance of eCollars?

I've hunted for over 45 years. I've hunted dogs with and without e-collars. A dog can get the job done either way. I DO hunt now with an e-collar on my dog, but I seldom, if ever use it. She has a pretty good memory apparently and responds to the beep or my whistle instantly. There have...

    Must Haves?

I agree with a pillow. Getting old sucks and a pillow has become a necessity. I always bring an extensive first aid kit for the dog and one for myself. Some good bourbon, good coffee and good beer are a must have as well.

    Almost here

I'm in the middle of an archery elk hunt right now. Grouse and chukar are still 4 weeks away here. Pheasant and quail start for me the second week in October. It's close enough that I can feel it.

I have shot it through the summer at sporting clays and skeet. I give is an A+ for feel, and ease to put BB's into the target. I also give it an A+ for ease to clean. I have gained enough confidence in it to use is on some extended hunting trips this fall.

    Long Distance Traveling for Birds

I have used both a trailer and an AirBnB, however with the price of fuel right now it makes more sense to rent an AirBnB than pull a trailer 6 or 7 hours. Drew
