Brent, I adjust my lead based on the angle. If it is crossing but going away slightly that lead is less than straight crossing. My hardest shot is still straight away or straight at me. I have to tell myself to cover the bird.

Please don't shave your golden. They need that under coat. Typically I let them work at the worst of the burrs for a while and then I help out in the end. I use scissors and cut when it is bad. Trimming the feathering before the hunt is a good alternative.

I happen to be partial to Goldens but I think they are great hunting companions and also great pets in the off season.

I use the vibrate button and it usually turns them. If not I nick and get their attention. If they are running hard after a bird I have to use the continuous button to get them within range. The older they get and the later into the season, the less I need the collar.
