    New E-collar needed

Dogtra. I can't speak for the newer models but I can for the 2002 T&B 2 dog set up I bought in 2006 and still going strong. Replaced the batteries on each collar once in that time frame. The damn things go on a single charge for a long long time. Bullet proof is what I would call them.

    Roadside Survey

I wondered about that as well. Little to no morning dew to push the pheasants to the roads where they would have been counted. The other question.... will the Crop harvest be early this year due to the drought? If so it may make early season better than normal.

    Bare shelves

Interesting article on the ammo situation. Sounds like this could last 2 years possibly more. The reason is very simple, the current demand can not be met even with manufacturers producing and shipping more ammo than anytime in past history. Note: the article was dated last December, but doubt...

    Roadside Survey

I'm cautiously optimistic. I read somewhere that during the peak of the drought that there was very little morning dew which might have prevented the birds coming to the roads early morning where they would have been visible for the counts. I've been conditioning dogs on some WMA's near me and...

    Pheasant loads

I don't think you can really rely on what it says is available online because supplies come in-and-out of stock so quickly. I don't think anybody is getting huge shipments in it's all small quantities and they're gone in hours or even days. It would be impossible to keep up with the online...

    Pheasant loads

Anyone shooting a 20 or 16 gauge I saw there was some at the Eden Prairie Scheels as of Thursday 9/9/21. They were field loads but didn't pay much attention to shot or load size. NO 12 gauge anywhere I've been checking in store or online. Fleet Farm in Monticello had NO shotshells period...

    Sharpies and the drought

Take a listen to Tyler Webster's forecast on Sharps on his Birds, booze and buds podcast : https://westernwingshooter.libsyn.com/bird-forecast-and-how-to-hunt-sharp-tails He lives out near Stanley and hunts alot. I think he said he hunted 130 days in 2020/2021

    How to Shoot a Bird

The thing about woodcock or grouse hunting is you end up killing more trees that actual birds. ;) Preferably you select a light weight, open choked gun that comes to the shoulder quickly and is not hindered by too many clothes. It is more instinctual and many time you are mounting the gun to a...

    How to Shoot a Bird

If a shotgun fits reasonably well and you shoot it often enough then yeah you learn to shoot it well. Off the rack shotguns are normally set for the average build and they would have us all being 5'9" and 170 lbs. If you have a long neck, long arms and or are 6'5" then it would surely benefit...

    How to Shoot a Bird

Raising your head often times is a gun fit issue, not always but if you're doing this often it very well could be. You raise your head because the drop to comb distance is too much or in other words it's too low for you thus you raise your head to see the bird. When you mount the gun with your...

    How to Shoot a Bird

Not always simple. Probably the two biggest reasons one misses is due to poor foot position/ stance when pulling the trigger and two looking at the whole bird instead of the head. Probably a third is shooting too fast, not clearly seeing the bird before you move. Now if you're presented with a...

    Briley Choke Tube Recommendations

Don't bother with ported chokes. They don't do anything but get clogged up with wad fouling. .015 or .020 thousandths or essentially L.Mod or Mod if your pheasant hunting. Check out Carlsons tubes great quality and a bit cheaper.

Prairie Grouse, partridge, and other assorted upland birds

Been awhile since I've had both but I think each have their own distinct taste. Sharptail grouse is quite gamey if not cooked properly. With dark meat birds especially you may have to get a little creative when cooking them ala marinating etc... As with any wild game, overcooking will ruin your...

Prairie Grouse, partridge, and other assorted upland birds

https://nerdfighteria.info/v/aLs8f-iDneo/ i think it has to do with fast vs slow twitch muscle fibers. Birds with slow twitch fibers e.g. migrating birds such as doves and waterfowl are on the wing much more than birds with fast twitch muscle fibers like chickens, turkey, pheasant and ruffed...

I love this rendition of TURN THE PAGE with Bob Seger and Jason Aldean. Bob can still get it done at 76 especially towards the end. A classic song.... enjoy.

    Tough week

Hardest thing a dog owner has to do but we all have to go thru it. I currently have a 15 year old GSP who is also nearing his last days. I've had to put 3 other dogs down in my time and you never get used to it. They're all special and they all have different personalities and touch your heart...
