    How many shells?

Actually there are a couple of spots that you can expect to run into all three (chukar, quail and pheasants) during one hunt. A couple of times you get up a covey of birds that have a mix of species in it.

    How many shells?

Yes, there is a place that we killed chukar, quail and pheasant all in the same area. Most of the areas that have chukar also have quail but pheasants are a little closer to agriculture. We also have another spot where we have Huns, quail and pheasants all in the same spot.

    How many shells?

Thanks, Ditto for me. I shoot skeet and trap and do well. I shoot well when its a rooster but quail and chukar are so fast and as I get older and slower they seem to fly faster and even harder to catch up to, but man I love the challenge!!

    How many shells?

I apologize LittleBigHorn22, perhaps I'm a little sensitive about my poor shooting.

    How many shells?

Why would you be critical about the number of shells that I carry anyway Littlebighorn? Having more than I need is always better than not enough.

I’m not a guide. If you want to go hunting sometime I might be up for that. I hunt in Utah and eastern Oregon a good bit. There are a few chukar spots in North West Utah that are about as easy of a chukar hunt as I’ve ever been on.

    How many shells?

10 quail, 2 pheasants and 8 chukar would be the limit. Also that is a unicorn of a day. I have carried 50 shells and run out. I don’t like to be in the field and out of shells.

    How many shells?

I hunt quail, pheasant and chukar all at the same time, additionally I typically will hunt 1/2 a day (7miles), I shoot roughly 25% for all species and I see a lot of birds so I bring one box in my shell pockets and bring a spare in my game pouch. This post makes me sound like a pretty poor shot!!

I grew up hunting wild birds and hopefully die hunting wild birds. I'm not saying that pen raised birds don't have their place in the bird hunting world. In my opinion pen raised birds are a lot like a bluegill pond or a brook trout stream when I was a kid. It was low skill high return with...

    Tools?

I always have a leatherman, a dog water bowl, water and a little can of disinfectant and blood coagulant (Red Hot) on any day trip for over night trips, I have a pretty extensive dog medical bag that has pretty much everything that I might need such as extra shells, cleaning kit, dog and human...

Worst things that happened while hunting ?

The following story is a fishing story, not a hunting story but it is a doozy!! Additionally, it is absolutely 100% true. A friend and I were down at Lake Powell and our intent was to load a boat with camping gear for 4 days and head up Lake about 30 miles and camp out and fish. We loaded up...

    Let's Bitch (Can't Hunt)

What a thread!!! This thing has taken so many turns and it ended up with a whiskey discussion. A hunting trip without a good Pale Ale at the end of every day wouldn't be a day. and as the sun sets and the coyotes come out a little Makers Mark is necessary. It makes my feet, knees and...

Definitely the Last Trip of the Year

Unfortunately, chukar hunting is a lot like elk hunting for me. Every chukar and elk season ends with me wondering if I have another season in me.

Chukar are the only upland bird that I hate and respect at the same time.

Worst things that happened while hunting ?

I fell in a lava rock outcrop and shattered the end of my middle finger by falling on my gun and I fell through the ice on a river this winter two miles from the truck. I lost most of my shells and had hypothermia by the time I got to the truck. Getting older and doing dumb!! I thought age and...

    Turn out the lights

Yup, another bird season behind. This time of year sucks. Fishing is a couple of months out here and nothing left to hunt. I had a great year though, with the exception of an extremely hot archery elk hunt last September. Other than that I have no complaints except next fall is so far away.

    Pheasants and quail

1 1/4 ounce 7.5 size shot 1250 fps always for everything. I figure that the better chance that I have to break legs on a rooster the better off I am going to be. They run like crazy if they still have their legs. Additionally, it doesn't hurt to put a few more BB's in quail for the same reason.

Agreed. That little Griffon is an awesome chukar dog. She never busts a covey! The more scent she gets the slower she goes. She is the exact opposite of every lab that I ever hunted behind. In short, I agree 100%. She makes me look good all the time.
