Pointing to far/ not moving in on running birds.

Or a heck of a field trial dog. I really don't see what the OP posted as being a problem. But I guess we all have our individual ideas of what we want our dogs to do in the field.

    After season shell blowout

Certainly no buys at Rogers on 16 ga.

Should I feel bad cutting a stock?

With a gun that light in 12 ga. recoil could be an issue unless you stick with some lower velocity loads. I think you can rule out any 3 inchers. I'd try shooting it "as is" and see what you think before cutting it. You're only talking about 3/8's of an inch. It's not a cheap gun so I'd give...

Should I feel bad cutting a stock?

What make and model is this shotgun?

Why did you go with the breed that you did and have you been satisfied?

From 1974 to 1996 I had 3 Springers and a Lab. In 1996 the Springer I had developed hip dysplasia and a friend of mine in Colorado had a litter of Brittany pups. He offered to give me my first Brittany and I've been hooked ever since. I'm now on my 4th Brittany. I love the size, disposition...

    New Law

You obviously don't know the laws in SD. If we are talking about licenses to hunt pheasants there is no limitation. You can buy as many as you want. Each license is valid for a total of 10 days.

    New Law

Since when did South Dakota limit non-resident hunting license, other than maybe waterfowl and big game.

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

Tom Knapp. I met him and had a couple of drinks with him in Huron, SD at the Ringneck Festival years ago. He put on a shooting exhibition on Friday afternoon. Pretty incredible what he could to with a shotgun and some clay targets. However, on Saturday, the day of the pheasant hunting...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

I've been using IC in my guns almost exclusively since the mid 70's.

    Tools?

I assume you are talking about pheasant hunting. I've been hunting pheasants for more than 60 years and never carried anything more than maybe a knife and a length of rope in case my dog got caught in a conibear trap.

    Collars

Thanks for this info. Guess I haven't looked at the newer Garmin units. It appears the TT25 is about $50 more than the TT15 Mini, but I'd spend the extra bucks and get the TT25 and have the latest technology. I do like the smaller size on my Brittanys.

    Collars

I have a 35 lb. female Brittany and have had the TT15 Mini for over 6 years. I really like the smaller collar for my Brittany. While some say the Mini has less battery life and less range I would say that it is minimal and nothing to be concerned about. I have the Alpha 100 with the TT15 Mini...

    Retrieves everything except birds...

Years ago I hunted a very good retrieving dog with a new dog. The older dog would take the birds away from her and thus she learned she didn't need to retrieve. Big mistake on my part. I'd try hunting them separate and see if that makes a difference. Opposite of your dog, I had one that...

2024 National Pheasant Fest in Sioux Fall, who is going?

45 years of living in SD and they never had a Pheasant Fest in Sioux Falls until I started spending my winters in Arizona. I did go to one in Kansas City and another in Minneapolis.

    Browning 20ga A5

I agree. My point was that the weight difference between 3 20 ga shells and 3 16 ga shells is very minimal.

    Browning 20ga A5

That is a proven fact but certainly could very between guns, payloads, chokes, etc.

    Browning 20ga A5

Assuming 3 shells in the gun the weight difference between 20 ga with 1 oz loads and a 16 ga with 1 1/8 oz loads has to be very minor. Maybe an ounce or two.

    Browning 20ga A5

One big advantage the 16 has over the 20 is that in most cases the 16 throws a better pattern.

    Browning 20ga A5

I love my 16 also. Kind of surprised the 20 is only 1 oz. less than the 16. Browning web site says the 20 is built using a smaller-sized frame than that of the 12 gauge. Doesn't compare it to the 16 so my guess they are using the 16 gauge frame. That's what Browning did with the older Auto...
