October Oregon Trip

I made a trip to eastern Oregon last month. They had a lot of flooding last spring and I was really concerned about upland nesting success. It looked like the birds did well and due to an unusually wet spring and summer, the habitat is incredible. Cockle burrs and burdock were 15 feet tall in places and the kotchia (spelling) was literally a wall in places. I’ve never said this before but a few cattle in places would be appreciated. There were many many young birds and old. It made for a great hunt and I can’t wait for the next one.

Most of what we hunt is BLM. That said most of the pheasants are on river bottoms of edge cover. There are several state wildlife areas around and on Facebook there is a thing called the cow hollow access program near Adrian OR. They charge $50 per year and you get access to 1000’s of acres of farm land.
