Went out all weekend. It was group hunting. Four guys and my buddy's kid, +3 dogs Saturday. Hunting was good but still had to work at it. Some places all the crops was up still, others it was gone and tractors already turning ground over as black exposed dirt. The old dog hunted well being closer to 10 than 9. At the end of the day my buddy wanted to take his son for a short walk and let him carry a gun, so I sat in the truck with Skye. Him and his wife always do a good job of getting their kids out hunting and fishing.
Second day I went with a different buddy and his grown son. The morning was slow but midday was good. Found lots of birds in one overlooked spot and that was it. Lots of birds without much coloring right now. We filled out both days which was a surprise. The warden was out on the regular and that's always nice to see. I have all the tailgate photos but instead I'm posting a pic of Skye as she looks out the window wishing she could hunt again and gently whining. I could go on with more info on conditions and more stories on places seen, great finds by the dog and shots well placed. Of roosters that escaped for another hunt another day. I'll keep it short though, as some members seem butthurt when I wax lyrical here or write a novella. I am looking forward to getting out alone. I really enjoy my buddies but nothing compares to hunting just you and the dog.
